MORNING :

"I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you; and so will I keep myself.”—2 Cor. xi. 9.

Great things are not what I desire,
Nor dainty meat, nor rich attire ;
Content with little would I be,
If, Lord, that little come from Thee.

NOON:

"Before honour is humility." Prov.

xv. 33.

I charge my thoughts, be humble still,
And all my carriage mild,

Content, my Father, with Thy will,
And quiet as a child.

[blocks in formation]

Am I proud of my fancied humility? —(Gal. vi. 3.)

Oh, set me free by Thine own might
From pride, that subtlest form of sin;
And smite it, oft as in the fight

It rears its hydra head within.

From strength to strength go on,
Wrestle, and fight, and pray,

-1 Sam.

Tread all the powers of darkness down,
And win the well-fought day.

NOON:-
:-

"The God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly."-Rom. xvi. 20.

Jehovah, by His ceaseless care,

Whose eye can never sleep,

From earthly foes, from Satan's snare,
My soul shall safely keep.

EVENING:

Have I this day yielded to the tempter? (1 John i. 9.)

Oh, think not of my doubts and fears,
My strivings with Thy grace divine;
Think upon Jesu's woes and tears,
And let His merits stand for mine.

MORNING :

"In God we boast all the day long."

Psa. xliv. 8.

He lives, the mighty Conqueror lives,
To tread my foes beneath His feet;
I smile to see their failing power,
And triumph in their last defeat.

NOON :

"The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise."-Eccles. ix. II.

Fond mortals but themselves beguile
When on themselves they rest;
Blind is their wisdom, vain their toil,
By Thee, O Lord, unbless'd.

EVENING:

Do I check self-glory by g'orying in God?—(Jer. ix. 23, 24.)

Perish each thought of human pride;
Let God alone be magnified;
His glory let the heavens resound,
Shouted from earth's remotest bound.
