The Epiphany

LOOK Thou in pity on the beginity,

kind Shepherd, Who in the beginning

of Thine everlasting reign didst manifest Thyself to Eastern seers, when first, as on this day, the riches of the Gentiles were spread before the manger-throne of Thy mysterious Sovereignty. Grant, O Lord, that I may bring all I have and give Thee heart for Heart, sacrifice for Sacrifice, life for Life.

I beseech Thee, O Lord, this most sacred day, manifest Thyself to me in Thy Holy Mystery. Enlighten my heart to love Thy Presence therein until faith ceaseth in sight, hope expireth in fulfilment, longing receiveth the fruition of Thy glorious Godhead.

Thou, Lord, art my hope, my trust, my life, my joy, my glory, my God, my all, my love. Lord, hear my prayer, and let my cry come unto Thee.

En Lent

CHILD of Mary, for me born, O Son of God, for me given, by Thy pain past finding out, by Thy eternal joy, hear me, Heavenly Kinsman.

By Thy Immaculate Conception, by Thy

Holy Nativity, Lord, I beseech Thee let Thy Holy Spirit come also upon me, and the mercy of the Highest overshadow me. By Thy circumcision, the just for the unjust, pierce Thou my soul with the fourfold wound of faith, hope, love, patience.

By Thy bright Epiphany, sweet Saviour, Sunlight of the Heavenly Day, shine into my heart, O loving Master, by the pure light of the knowledge of Thyself; grant me an enduring vision of Thy Truth: let the gloom of sin depart, and make Thou my darkness to be pure light of clearest day.

By Thy early teaching in Thy Heavenly Father's House, forgive me that my obedience is so faint, my thanksgiving so cold and

late.

By the profound and tender mystery of Thy Youth Whose adorable Name I bear, O remember not past years. By the reverend majesty of Thy Manhood, strengthen Thou the things that are ready to die.

By Thy Baptism, O consecrate with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows, make Thou my former robe white as the snows of the holy mount.

By Thy poverty, Blessed Christ our Prince, draw out my soul to Thy afflicted, let me satisfy Thy poor.

By Thy Fasting, O Living Bread of Immortality, cast out the lingering fear that hath torment. Help me to enter by the

portal Thou hast consecrated where Paschal solemnities are kept. Help me, long vanished Heavenly Bridegroom, to keep the forty days of sacred Lent. By the beginning of Sorrows, by Thy Temptation in the wilderness, O mightiest Conqueror the world hath seen or can see, strengthen me to bear the loneliness and anguish of the spiritual conflict.

By Thy weariness in journeying, O Rest of the weary and the way-worn, give me rest, Lord Jesus.

By Thy night-long prayers, great Master of devotion, Lord, teach me to pray.

O Thou, Who on that wondrous journey didst set Thy Face to die, soothe my fear as I journey towards the true Jerusalem and free. O Thou, Who goest before me, help me to be strong and of good courage. Arm me with Thy patience, let Thy grace be in my heart, let the Peace of the Comforter abide with my Spirit. God give me rest in the land whither I go.

By the Holy Mystery of Thy Love, alike the Witness and the Prophecy of Thy Return, by the wonderful Mystery of Thy Holy Body and Thy precious Blood, O Lord, have mercy.

By Thine Agony in the garden, O Love enduring all things, when Thou didst vouchsafe to faint beneath the world's sad burthen, that our eyes might be preserved from tears,

our wilful feet from falling, help me to watch with Thee, O Lord, I entreat Thee. Let me not fall into the dark sleep of sin. . O work in me a more loving conformity to the loving Will wherein was Thy delight.

By Thy Cross, O pierced in the hour of Love, Lord, help me to look to Thee crucified and mourn, to look to Thee and be saved. . . . O Holy and Eternal Saviour, Whom we crucified, stretch forth, dear Lord, Thy loving pierced hands, still outspread to bless all lifted hearts, and heal me who have so much sinned, so little loved.

By Thy adorable Passion, O constraining Love, fast bind me with strong bands of love to the welcome cross of a true repentance.

By the slow hours of that cruel mockery, borne that Thine enemies might be saved from everlasting reproach, by the horror of great darkness that veiled the sun, by the anguish of Thy soul, O Saviour, borne that never soul of Thine need be forsaken more, deliver me from the second and endless and intolerable Death.

By Thy Death, grant me to die to sin and to myself and to the evil world, to die the death all souls that live desire.

By Thy Burial, dear Saviour of a dying world, give rest to me that am faint; hide me within the shadow of Thy peace.

By Thy victorious Resurrection, great Shepherd of the sheep, be Thou merciful

L

unto me, O God; raise Thou me up again; O raise me up, that I may live, and let me not be disappointed of my hope.

By Thy Ascension, O adorable Mediator, Flesh of our flesh, bone of our bone, Man in the form that rose, God in the power that bore Thee to Thy Father's Throne, Lord, increase my faith.

By the wonderful coming of the Comforter, King of Peace, sanctify me wholly.

Long, long ere the great Tribulation, ere Thy despisers behold Thee for themselves, and wonder and perish, ere the smiting of the sword of Thy mouth, the blasting of the breath of Thy displeasure,-dear Lord, recall Thy banished. By the Love of Thine atonement, sweet Jesu, mercy.

By the pure oblation of Thy Life and Death Thou as a King didst offer unto the King, hear my prayer, O Lord, consider my supplication, in Thy faithfulness answer me and in Thy righteousness.

Easter-Day

DAY-SPRING from on high, O Light Spiritual, O Light having no evening, O Holy Christ, Holy and Immortal, Holy and Merciful, Lord, Thou livest and the Church is glad, yea, the multitude of souls is glad thereof.
