I adore Thee, O Blessed Jesus, my Lord and my God, when I consider the Benefits which through Thy Mercy, we receive in Thy Holy Sacrament.

Glory be to Thee, O Lord, Who there makest Thy own Body and Blood to become our spiritual Food, for the strengthening and refreshing of our souls.

Glory be to Thee, O Lord, Who by this heavenly Food, dost mystically unite us to Thyself by a marvellous incorporation.

Glory be to Thee, O Lord, Who by this immortal Food dost nourish our souls to live the life of grace here, and wilt raise us up to life everlasting hereafter.

Lord, evermore give us this Bread.

I

PURPOSE OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST

This do, and thou shalt live

ADORE Thee, O Blessed Jesus, my Lord and my God, when I consider for what end Thou didst institute Thy Holy Sacrament, implied in Thy own command, Do this in remembrance of Me.

O gracious Lord, is it possible for me ever to forget Thee, my Saviour, Who hast done so great things for me?

Alas, my own sad experience tells me it is. Every temptation, every vanity, is apt to steal my heart from Thee, though Thy own dying words bid me remember Thee.

But, O Blessed Lord, for Thy infinite mercies' sake pardon all my forgetfulness and ingratitude hitherto, and create in me such a thankful remembrance of Thy dying for me as may move me to give myself up entirely to Thee, as Thou didst give up Thyself on the Cross for me. Amen.

O Thou, Who being lifted up from the earth dost draw all men unto Thee, I pray Thee lovingly to draw me, heart and soul and spirit, unto Thyself.

O give me grace to kneel in spirit beneath Thy Cross. There may I see, and feel, and never more forget, the mighty Love

that moved Thee to endure such Agony for this cold heart. . . Then shall I truly mourn for the sin that pierced Thee; then shall I rejoice in the bitter bearing of my cross; then shall I no more shrink from following Thee. Then shall all things belonging to the Spirit live and grow in me. Then shall all fear and mistrust pass away; and the longed for peace and joy in believing at length be mine; and Thy Strength be made perfect in my weakness. . . Then with ever-increasing delight shall I greet Thy blessed Approach in the Sacrament of Thy Love; then shall I look forward with deepest longing to the dread Day of Thy Returning. Then shall my ears be open to the ceaseless pleadings of Thy patient Spirit; then shall I strive nevermore to grieve, nevermore to weary Him; then by His mighty power, upholding my feebleness, shall I long and labour so to live, that when I pass where there is no more pain I may hear Thy Voice of Love call me “blessed,” and bid me enter into Thy Joy.

Hear my prayer, O Lord, and consider my desire... So will I give thanks unto Thee, O God, my King, and will praise Thy Name for ever and ever; for great has been Thy Mercy towards me, and Thou hast redeemed my soul.

REMEMBRANCE OF THE LORD'S

SUFFERINGS

Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world!

MY crucified Saviour, glory be to Thee,

My red sufferings to

be recorded in the Gospels; there have I read of the works and triumphs of Redeeming Love, for which I will ever adore and praise Thee.

man;

O most merciful and loving Lord Jesus Christ, I remember how Thou Who thoughtest it to be no robbery to be equal with God, wast made in the fashion of I remember how Thou didst toil and weep and pray for us in Thy blessed Ministry of Love; what reproaches and contradictions, what blasphemies and persecutions Thou didst endure from a perverse and sinful generation; how at last Thou didst die for Thine enemies-even for those who then despised, and for those who now reject Thee.

Lord Jesu, was ever sorrow like unto Th, orrow?

rthy art Thou, O Lamb that was slain, he worship, and power, and glory, and and blessing.

acious Lord, I remember how for our

sake, Thou didst vouchsafe to be exceeding sorrowful, yea, even unto death; how Thou didst fall to the earth beneath the burthen of the world's sin. . . . how Thou Who art God over all, Blessed for ever, wast treacherously betrayed by Thine own disciple; wast apprehended and bound as a Malefactor; wast denied by Peter, and forsaken by all Thy Disciples.

O Lord Jesu, was ever sorrow like unto Thy sorrow?

Worthy art Thou, O Lamb that was slain, to receive worship, and power, and glory, and honour, and blessing.

I remember, O Lord, how Thou, Who art the Truth, was accused by false witnesses; how Thou Whom all the Angels adore, wast content to endure the scorn of evil men, hateful, and hating Thee; how Thy Face, before which heaven and earth shall flee away, was smitten by Thy fallen creatures; how Thine all-seeing Eyes were blindfolded; how, O most worthy Judge eternal, Thou wast brought before an earthly judgment-seat, and wast given up to the will of Thine enemies; and wast scourged, that by Thy stripes we might be healed.

O Lord Jesu, was ever sorrow like unto Thy sorrow?

Worthy art Thou, O Lamb that was slain,
