INTERCESSION

E exhort therefore, that supplications, prayers, and intercessions be made for all men

[ocr errors]

ALMIGHTY and Everlasting God, Who by Thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications on behalf of all men, I humbly desire to commend to Thy Mercy and Divine Providence the wants and necessities of all mankind.

O Lord Christ, the Son of God, terrible among the Kings of the earth, O ineffable Majesty, having no fellowship with the throne established in iniquity, have mercy on all Christian Rulers. Have pity on them, have pity on them, O my God; lest they lose their inheritance incorruptible and undefiled.

Lord, let it be Thy good pleasure to restore to Thy Church Catholic primitive peace and purity.

Far and wide, east and west, shine gloriously upon us, O Sun of Righteousness.

May it please Thee, O Lord, to save and defend our Lady the Queen from all her enemies. May Thy heavenly Love console her for the earthly love she has lost.

May it please Thee to bless and preserve evermore all the Royal Family..

May it please Thee, O Lord, to bless all in authority in the State with the spirit of wisdom, and justice, and the fear of Thee.

May it please Thee to grant to this whole nation, healthful, peaceful and fruitful times. Lord, I pray Thee for our Mother Church, for her peace in all places of her dominion. Let not her eyes fail in looking upward. . . Grant, O Lord, that in all her sufferings here below she may by faith behold the glory that shall be revealed, when the Bridegroom cometh in the clouds of heaven, with the Holy Angels of His Presence, and her prayers are consummate in the adora. tion of Eternity.

Lord, I pray that none bearing on their foreheads the Baptismal Cross of Thy Christ, none bearing Thy Spirit's seal, called to be Saints-may deprive themselves of the redemption purchased for them in the Offering of the Lord Jesus; but that all may be fellow-workers with the Divine Restorer, reverent and loyal subjects of Thy dear Son, our Kingly Mediator, and may at last partake of the immortal glory of the Resurrection.

May it please Thee to have Mercy on those called to the Office of Deacon; and that they make full proof of their ministry, endue them, O Lord, with holiness of life and constancy of faith, with zeal and love unfeigned. Send down Thy blessing on all

ministering in Thy Holy One's abiding Priesthood, that they may be holy and blameless before Thee, in the love of Incarnate Charity, strengthened by the Wisdom of Thy Spirit, skilled in the mystic warfare of the Bride of God. Guide and strengthen with Thy Grace our Fathers in Thee, leaders of the undying company, that they may follow the sacred footprints of the Apostle of our profession,-that the Disciples may be as their Master, the servants as their unapproached Lord.

Lord of the Harvest, send forth fresh labourers unto Thy harvest.

May it please Thee especially to have mercy on those bravest soldiers of Thy Militant Church who cast away life itself to advance their dear Lord's Kingdon, who thinking not of themselves, wander into distant lands, bearing His Name. O comfort, strengthen, and sustain their hearts; and defend them, most gracious Father, in all their dangers both of soul and body. And grant that all may be so stable and strong in Thy Son Christ, that when He comes again in His glorious Majesty, they may receive of Him a crown that fadeth not away.

May it please Thee to have mercy on the Heathen, walking in darkness. O let the Light of Thy glorious Gospel shine upon

them.

By the Mystery of godliness,

By the Majesty of Love self-sacrificing, By the beauty of His holiness, by His meekness and gentleness in Whom all men shall be blessed,

By the triumph of His Passion, and the Brightness of His Rising, by the effusion of His Spirit, and the Promise of His Return, by the stream that, flowing from the Altar of His Cross, maketh glad the City of God, and shall fill all the land, by the Heavenly Witness that He is yet with us in truth,— hasten, O Lord, the acceptable offering up of the Gentiles, well-pleasing unto Thee; that the whole earth may be filled with Thy Glory.

Hear me, O Lord, as I utter the most blessed words ever spoken in the ears of men, the Prayer of all Thy children, from the little ones just feeling the marvellous and mystic drawing of the Cross, to those in whom is all Thy delight, in whom the Joy of Thy Spirit is verily perfected.

Our Father.

INTERCESSION

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit

GOD of Abraham, look upon Thine everlasting Covenant ; cause the captivity of Israel to return. They were Thy people; O be Thou their Saviour; and may all who love Jerusalem, and mourn for her, rejoice with her, through the Lord Jesus Christ, their Saviour and ours.

May it please Thee, O Lord, to have mercy on all unbelievers. O lighten the eyes that sleep in Death.

O Saviour, touch the hearts of all in doubt, that they may enquire humbly after Thee, may seek Thee sorrowing, may find Thee enthroned in the midst of their own Father's House of Prayer, may hear Thy words unearthly wise, and know Thee that Thou art the Lord that healeth them.

By Thy pains and consolations, draw the faithless unto Thee.

Lord, have mercy on all living in sin, that they may have grace and strength to break their bonds, to flee from their hard, hard master, and take refuge with Thee, O allpitying, all-restoring Lord.

Lord, have mercy on all who have separated themselves from the Church, who yct
