THE present Manual of Prayers came
by accident under my notice. Having long felt the want of such a Manual for the use of those who had been recently confirmed, and observing that the present work went far to supply the need, I suggested to the writer of the volume the desirableness of publication. The manuscript was in consequence submitted to me for perusal, and is now presented to those recently confirmed, with the full persuasion that the warmth of the prayers, the deep spirit of devotion that pervades them, and the freshness that especially marks the volume, will appeal to young and warm hearts, and, with the blessing of the Holy Ghost, will be helpful to them in the after-confirmation life.
The writer is young, and for that very reason more likely to touch the religious feelings and sympathies of those for whom the prayers are intended.
I have suggested a very few verbal corrections, but I have been especially careful not to tone down the warm expressions of a young and devout heart. The prayers are thus as nearly as possible in the same state as originally written.
To the young, then, the tender-hearted, and the devout, I commend this Manual, with the prayer that it may be helpful to them, and bring still more home to their hearts the love of their Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
