HYMN XVI.

RET NOT thyfelf because of the Ungodly; neither be thou envious against the evil Doers: for they fhall be cut down like the Grafs, and be withered even as the green Herb. (P. xxxvii.)

2. Put thou thy Trust in the Lord, and be doing good; fo fhalt thou dwell in the Land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

3. Delight thyfelf alfo in the Lord, and He shall give thee thy Heart's-defire: commit thy Way unto the Lord; put thy Truft alfo in him, and He fhall bring it to pass.

4. He fhall make thy Righteoufnefs as clear as the Light; and thy juft Dealing as the Noon-day.

5. Reft in the Lord, and abide patiently upon Him; but fret not thyself because of him who profpereth in his Way, and because of the Man who bringeth wicked Devices to pass.

6. Cease from Wrath, and let go Difpleasure; fret not thyfelf in any wife, elfe fhalt thou be moved to do Evil. 7. For wicked Doers fhall be rooted out; but they, that patiently wait upon the Lord, fhall inherit the Earth.

8. For yet a little while, and the Ungodly fhall be clean gone; yea, thou fhalt look diligently after his Place, and it

fhall not be.

9. But the Meek-fpirited fhall poffefs the Earth, and fhall be refreshed in the Abundance of Peace.

10. The wicked plotteth against the juft, and gnasheth upon him with his Teeth; the Lord fhall laugh him to fcorn; for He feeth that his Day is coming.

11. A little that the righteous Man hath, is better than great Riches of the wicked: for the Arms of the Ungodly Ihall be broken; but the Lord upholdeth the Righteous.

12. The Lord knoweth the Days of the Upright, and their Inheritance fhall endure for ever.

13. They fhall not be confounded in the perilous Time; in the Days of Dearth they fhall have enough.

14. But as for the Ungodly, they shall perish, and the Enemies of the Lord fhall confume as the Fat of Lambs; yea, even as the Smoke fhall they confume away.

15. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; but the righteous is merciful and liberal.

16. Such

16. Such, as are bleffed of God, fhall poffefs the Land; but they, that are curfed of Him, fhall be rooted out.

17. The Lord ordereth a good Man's Steps, and maketh his Way acceptable to himself: though he fall, he shall not be utterly caft away; for the Lord upholdeth him with his Hand.

18. I have been young, and now am old; and yet faw I never the righteous forfaken, nor his Seed begging their Bread.

19. The righteous is ever merciful and lendeth; and his Seed is bleffed.

20. Flee from Evil, and do the Thing that is good; and dwell for evermore.

21. For the Lord loveth the Thing that is right, He forfaketh not his Saints, but they are preferved for ever. 22. The wicked fhall be punished: as for the Seed of the ungodly, it fhall be rooted out.

23. The righteous fhall inherit the Land, and dwell therein for ever.

24. The Mouth of the righteous is exercifed in Wisdom, and his Tongue will be talking of Judgement.

25. The Law of his God is in his Heart, and none of his Steps fhall flide.

26. The ungodly feeth the righteous, and feeketh occafion to flay him.

27. The Lord will not leave him in his Hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

28. Hope thou in the Lord, and keep his Way, and He fhall promote thee, that thou fhalt poffefs the Land; when the ungodly fhall perifh, thou fhalt fee it.

29. I myself have feen the wicked in great Power, and flourishing like a green Bay tree: yet I went by, and lo, he was gone; I fought him, but his Place could no where be found.

30. Keep Innocency, and take heed unto the Thing that is right, for that shall bring a Man Peace at the laft.

31. As for the Tranfgreffors, they fhall perish together: and the End of the wicked is, they fhall be rooted out at

the laft.

...་*

32. But the Salvation of the righteous cometh of the Lord, who is also their Strength in the Time of Trouble.

33. And

33. And the Lord fhall ftand by them, and fave them; He shall deliver them from the ungodly, and fhall fave them, because they put their Truft in Him.

34. BLESSED BE the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Chrift, who hath bleffed us with all fpiritual Bleffings in heavenly Places in Chrift: (Ephef. i. 3.).

35. According as He hath chofen us in Him, before the Foundation of the World, that we should be holy and without Blame before him in Love.

36. To GOD only wife, be Glory, through Chrift, for Amen. (Rom. xvi. 27.).

HYMN XVII.

Morning.

HEAR THIS, all ye People; give Ear, all Ye that dwell in the World; high and low, rich and poor, one with another. My Mouth fhall fpeak of Wifdom; and my Heart fhall mufe of Understanding. (P. xlix.)

2.. I will incline mine Ear to the Parable, and fhew my dark Sayings upon the Harp.

3. Wherefore fhould I fear in the Days of Evil, and when the Wickedness of my Heels compafleth me round

about?

4. There be fome that put their Truft in their Wealth, and boaft themselves in the Multitude of their Riches: but None of them can by any Means redeem his Brother, nor give unto God a Ranfom for him.

5. For it coft more to redeem their Souls; fo that he must let that alone for ever; yea, though he fhould live long, and fee not the Grave.

6. For he feeth that wife Men alfo die, and perish togegether, as well as the ignorant and foolish, and leave their Riches for others.

7. And yet they think that their Houfes fhall continue for ever; and that their Dwelling-places fhall endure from one Generation to another; and call their Lands after their own Names.

8. Nevertheless, Man will not abide in Honor; feeing he may be compared unto the Beafts that perifh: this is the

Wa

Way of them, this is their Foolishness; and yet their Pofterity approve their Sayings.

9. They lie in the Grave like Sheep, Death gnaweth upon them, and the righteous fhall have Domination over them in the Morning; their Beauty fhall confume away in the Sepulchre from their Dwelling.

10. But God will redeem my Soul from the Power of the Grave; for He fhall receive me.

11. Be not thou afraid, when One is made rich, or if the Glory of his House be encreased: for he fhall carry Nothing away with him, when he dieth, neither fhall his Pomp follow him.

12. For though while he lived, he counted himself a happy Man; and fo long as thou doeft well unto thyself, Men will speak good of thee; he fhall follow the Generation of his Fathers, and fhall never fee Light.

13. Man that is in Honor, and hath no Understanding, is like unto the Beasts that perish.

14. I SAID, I will take heed to my Ways, that I offend not with my Tongue. I will keep my Mouth as it were with a Bridle, while the Ungodly is in my Sight. (Pf. xxxix.)

15. I held my Tongue, and fpake nothing; I kept Silence, yea even from good Words; but it was Pain and Grief to me.

16. My Heart was hot within me, and while I was thus mufing, the Fire kindled; and at the laft I fpake with my Tongue: "Lord, make me to know my End, and the "Number of my Days, that I may know how frail I am.”

17. Behold, Thou haft made my Days as it were a Hand-breadth, and mine Age is even as Nothing in respect of Thee; and verily every Man at his best State is altogether Vanity.

18. Surely Man walketh in a vain Shew, and difquieteth himself in vain; he heapeth up Riches, and cannot tell, who fhall gather them.

4

19. And now, Lord, what wait I for? truly my Hope is even in Thee: deliver me from all mine Offences, and make me not the Reproach of the foolish.

20. Forfake me not, O Lord my God; be not Thou far from me: hafte Thee to help me, O Lord God of my Salvation.

21. When

21. When Thou with Rebukes doft chaften Man for Sin, Thou makeft his Beauty to confume away, like as it were a Moth fretting a Garment; every Man therefore is but Vanity.

22. Hear my Prayer, O Lord, and give Ear unto my Cry; hold not thy Peace at my Tears.

23. For I am a Stranger with Thee, and a Sojourner, as all my Fathers were.

24. O fpare me a little, that I may recover my Strength, before I go hence, and be no more seen.

25. Now MAY the very God of Peace fanctifie you wholly; and I pray God your whole Spirit, and Soul and Body, be preserved blameless unto the Coming of our Lord Jefus Chrift. (1 Thessal. i. 23.)

26. The Grace of our Lord Jefus Chrift be with us all Amen.

HYMN XVIII.

Evening

FAVE MERCY upon me, O God, according to thy great Goodnefs; according to the Multitude of thy tender Mercies blot away mine Offences. (Pf. li.) 2. Wash me thoroughly from mine Iniquity, and cleanse me from my Sin; for I acknowledge my Tranfgreffions, and my Sin is ever before me.

3. Against Thee only have I finned, and done evil in thy Sight; that Thou mightest be justified in thy faying, and be clear when Thou judgest.

4. Behold, I was fhapen in Wickedness, and in Sin did my Mother conceive me.

5. But lo, Thou requireft Truth in the inward Parts, and fhalt make me to understand Wisdom fecretly.

6. Purge me with Hyffop, and I fhall be clean; wash me, and I fhall be whiter than Snow.

7. Make me to hear of Joy and Gladnefs; that the Bones which Thou haft broken, may rejoice: turn thy Face from my Sins, and blot out all my Mifdeeds.

8. Create in me a clean Heart, O God; and renew a right Spirit within me: caft me not away from thy Prefence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me.
