Salvation; and that by his Refurrection from the Dead, we have a lively Hope and Expectation of an Inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, that fadeth not away, referved in Heaven for us. We farther blefs Thee for all the Means of Grace that we enjoy, for the Light of thy Gofpel ftill continued amongst us, and for our Deliverance from [Popery,] Superftition, and Slavery: Many a Time hath the Lord been on our Side, and rescued us, when no other Arm could fave us. And we beseech Thee to give us fuch a grateful Sense of all thy Mercies, that our Hearts may be continually thankful, and we may fhew forth thy Praife, not only with our Lips, but by living in Righteoulnefs and true Obedience all our Days, that at length we may obtain eternal Life by Jefus Christ our Lord; to Whom, with Thee, through the Affiftance of the Holy Spirit, be all Honor and Praife, now and for ever. Amen.

P. Worthy is the Lamb that was flain, to receive Power and Riches and Wifdom and Strength and Honor and Glory and Bleffing. Amen.

N. B. If any of the particular Forms of Thanksgiving (inferted after the Morning Service, pag. 42-46.) be thought neceffary, let them now be read, or fuch other occafional Ones as the Minifter may provide. After which, While All fit down filently, let the Minifter (or his Affiftant,) read a Chapter from the Old Teftament for the First Leffon, as is appointed in the Table of Leffons for each Day in the Year, unless fome particular Occafion fhould render any other Chapter feem more fuitable, which is left to his Difcretion to alter as He fees fit now and then. Before reading the Chapter, let him always preface it as directed in the Morning, and conclude in like Manner: and if he thinks neceffary, He may add a fhort Expofition or practical Improvement of the Chapter, in the manner of M. Oftervald, before recommended to be read at the End of every Leffon, as beft fuited to the Benefit of the poor and unlearned.

Then All fanding up, fhall be faid the following HYMN, except on the fecond, fourth, feventh, nineteenth or twenty ninth Days of the Month, when Part of it will occur in the Hymns to be read in the course of the Month, and on thefe Days the One following it may better be used.

MTT is a good Thing to give Thanks unto the Lord; to fing Praifes unto thy Name, O Thou moft High. (P. xôi.)

P. To fhew forth thy loving Kindness in the Morning, thy Faithfulness every Night.

M. Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; enter into his Courts with Praife; be thankful unto Him, and fpeak good of his Name. (Pf c. 4, 5.)

P. For the Lord is good, his Mercy is exceeding great, his Truth and Faithfulness endure to all Generations.

M. Who fhall abide in thy Tabernacle, O Lord? who fhall dwell in thy holy Hi!? (P. xv.)

P. He that waiketh uprightly, and worketh Righteouf, nefs, and fpeketh the Truth in his Heart.

M. He that backbiteth not with his Tongue, nor doeth Evil to his Neighbor, nor taketh up a Reproach against him.

P. He that hath clean Hands, and a pure Heart, who hath not lift up his Soul unto Vanity, nor fworn deceit. fully.

M. Search us, O God, and know our Hearts; try us, and know our Thoughts; fee if there be any wicked Way in us, and lead us in the Way everlafting. (cxxxix. 23.)

P. Thou haft commanded us to keep thy Precepts diligently: O that our Ways were directed to keep all thy Statutes! (cxix. 4, 5.)

M. If Thou, Lord, fhoudft mark every Iniquity, who could stand before Thee? But there is Forgivenels with Thee, that Thou mayeft be feared. (cxxx. 3.)

P. Teach us thy Ways, O Lord, and we will walk in thy Truth: incline ourHearts to ferve Thee faithfully. (lxxxvi. 11.)

M. Say ye to the righteous, it fhall be well with them: for they fhall eat the Fruit of their Doings; they fhall receive the Bleffing of the Lord, and Righteoufnefs from the God of their Salvation. (Ifai. iii. 10-Pf. xxiv. 5.)

Inftead of the Foregoing, may be faid the Following, on the Days abovementioned, or any other.

M. Ye that ftand in the Houfe of the Lord, in the Courts of the House of our God, praise ye the Lord; for the Lord is good, fing Praises unto his Name, for it is pleafant. (PJ, cxxxv. 2, 3.)

P. My Soul doth magnifie the Lord, and my Spirit rejoiceth in God my Savior. (Luke i. 46.)

M. For He hath regarded Us in our low Eftate: He that is mighty hath done great things for us, and holy is his Name.

P. His Goodness and Mercy is ever on All them that fear Him, throughout all Generations.

M.He fheweth his Wisdom and Power in their Protection, and in defeating the wicked Imaginations of the proud Oppreffors.

P. He pulleth down the Mighty, if wicked, from their Seats, referving them to his future Judgement; M. But exalteth the Humble and Meek, if not in this Life, in Life eternal.

P. He filleth the hungry Souls, that cry unto Him, with good Things, and bringeth the rich Oppressors to Want and Difgrace.

M. In the Abundance of his Mercy He hath pro❤ tected and relieved his Servants, as He promifed to righteous Abraham, who is the Father of all the faithful; Galat. iii. 7, 8.)

P. In whofe Seed in Chrift all Nations on Earth fhall be bleffed. Amen. (Gen. xii. 3.-xviii. 18. -xxii. 18. -xxvi. 4.)

Or inftead of Either of these two laft Hymns, the TE DEUM (inferted after Morning Service pag. 47.) may be read fometimes.

Then fall follow one of the HYMNS, compofed from the Pfalms and other Parts of Scripture, (inferted afterwards,) in the -Order as they are divided for each Day of the Month, the Minifler firft naming the Day of the Month and the Hymn, a Verfe of which is to be alternately recited by the Minifter and People.

When that is done, the People All fitting down, the Minister (or Affiftant) fhall read the Second Leffon out of the New Teftament as appointed for the Day, unless on fome extraordinary Occafion He fee fit to alter it; and if He judge it expedient, may add a fhort Comment as before recommended: but let him be careful berein to advance Nothing but what is clearly contained in the facred Scriptures, and may tend to Edification, avoiding every Thing that may engender Strife br Debate. 1

After this, All landing, let the following be faid;

M. Lord, grant to thy Servants Grace Mercy and Peace, according to thy Promife in Chrift Jefus our Lord.

P. Bleffed be God, that we now fee, by Faith, in the Gofpel of Chrift, the Savior of the World;

M. Whom Thou haft ordained to be feen and known by all People in due time,

P. To be the Light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the Glory of thine Ifrael, in whom Thou art well-pleased. M.O Lord, gracioufly affift Us to live to thine Honor, that we may continue in thy Favor, and depart this Life at thy good time in Peace, and may praise thy Name in Heaven eternally.

P. Amen.

Then, while the Congregation all fit down, let a fublime Tune be played on the Organ; or (if there be none) let a Pfalm or Hymn in Metre be fung.

After which, the following ADMONITION may be read by the Minifter (or his Affiftant) and the People alternately, on every Sonday or other extraordinary Occafion, Ail Randing or fitting, as most agreeable.

Y Fellow Chriftians, We are required by our Religion, in the first Place, to believe in God; but at the fame Time We must remember, that Faith without good Works is dead; and if we regard Iniquity in our Hearts, God will not hear our Prayers. (a)

P. He that cometh to God, muft believe that He is; and that He is the Rewarder of Them that diligently feek Him. (b).

M. Let Us therefore add to our Faith, Virtues to Virtue, Knowledge; to Knowledge, Temperance; to Temperance, Patience; and to Patience, Godliness, Brotherly Kindness, and Charity that We may not be barren nor unfruitful in the Knowledge of our Lord Jefus Chrift. (c)

P. If any Man have not the Spirit of Chrift, the Same is none of His: Let Us therefore give all Dili gence to make our Calling and Election fure. (d)

M. Let us worship the Lord our God in Spirit and in Truth, and turn not to Idols, which neither can fee, nor hear, nor walk: Let us flee from all Idolatry, and ferve the living and true God with a willing Mind. (e)

P. For no Idolater fhall inherit the Kingdom of God,

M. Let us fear the Lord, and ftand in Awe of him; for the Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom, And let None of us fwear falfely, or take his Name in vain; but let us ferve Him with Reverence and godly Fear, for None can deliver out of his Hand. (g)

P. Let us then fear to offend Him, who is able to deftroy both Soul and Body in Hell. (b)

M. Let us feek the Lord with our whole Heart, walk humbly before Him, and put our Truft in Him, ac knowledging Him in all our Ways, and patiently fubmitting Ourselves to Him in all Things. (i)

P. Yea, let us truft in the Lord at all Times, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting Strength. (k)
