We bless thee, O Lord.

We render thanks unto thee, O God.

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, riches, wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever. Amen.

Praised be the Lord daily.

Even the God who helpeth us.

And poureth his benefits upon us. Amen.
Concluding Prayer.

GOD, the strength of all those that put their trust in thee, mercifully accept our prayers; and because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without thee, grant us the help of thy grace, that in keeping of thy commandments we may please thee, both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Benedictory Prayer.

MAY the peace of God which passeth all under

standing, keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst us, and remain with us always. Amen.

Evening Prayer.

At the beginning of Evening Prayer, the Master may read the following Sentences, unless there are any proper for the Day.

WHAT shall I render unto the Lord for all

WHA

the benefits he hath done unto me? I will receive the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. Ps. cxvi.

I

WILL arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. St. Luke xv.

ALTHOUGH we have sinned, yet have we an

Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the propitiation for our sins. 1 St. John ii.

He hath instituted and ordained holy mysteries, as pledges of his love, and for a continual remembrance of his death, to our great and endless comfort.

Then the General Confession, to be said by the whole

family, kneeling.

LMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And here is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu

L

our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

For Pardon.

LORD, we beseech thee, absolve thy people

tiful goodness we may all be delivered from the bands of those sins, which by our frailty we have committed: Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

O

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Then the Lord's Prayer to be said by all, kneeling. UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And ead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: Amen.

Then may be said,

O Lord, open thou our lips;

And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

O thou, who, as on this solemn evening, didst institute the mysteries of thy body and blood: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

¶ Then all standing, a Psalm *, as in Divine Service. Or if no Psalm is said, the Doxology may follow here.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;

Psalms proper for the Evening, iv. xxxi. xci. cxxi. cxxxii. cxxxiv.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

After which, a Lesson, and then the following Canticle, or else a Hymn, may be said or sung.

Magnificat.

MY soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden.

:

For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

For he that is mighty hath magnified me and holy is his Name.

And his mercy is on them that fear him : throughout all generations.

He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat : and hath exalted the humble and meek.

He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever.

:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

¶ Then, all kneeling, the following Prayers; the Master first

saying,

The Lord be with you;

And with thy spirit.

Let us pray.

The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord,
And thou givest them their meat in due season.
Unto thee we lift up our eyes;

O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
So teach us to number our days;

That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Let thy merciful kindness, O Lord, be upon us.
Like as we do put our trust in thee.

Then the Collect for the Day, after which the Collects
following.

GOD, who hast prepared for them that love thee such good things as pass man's understanding; Pour into our hearts such love toward thee, that we, loving thee above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. For the Holy Ghost.

GOD the King of glory, who hast exalted thine only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph unto thy kingdom in heaven; We beseech thee, leave us not comfortless; but send to us thine Holy Ghost to comfort us, and exalt us unto the same place whither our Saviour Christ is gone before, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen. For Spiritual Nourishment.

[ocr errors]

ORD of all power and might, who art the Author and Giver of all good things; Graft in our hearts the love of thy Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
