The first issue (in 1522) differs only in having the inscriptions partly in Latin and partly in German. This is regarded as Dürer's finest effort in the art of woodengraving, and is eagerly, but vainly, sought for by many collectors. The artist is supposed to have drawn with his own hand the designs upon the woodblocks. 66 The Emperor is represented seated in a magnificent car, drawn by twelve horses and accompanied by several allegorical female figures.
