Sperling is without a rival in Dog-painting. It is a curious fact that notwithstanding the great interest that is taken in Dogs by the English nation, it has produced but two Dog Artists of any renown, and they were extremely limited in their range of subjects, rarely going further afield than their own kennels.

This is a complete collection of these works, which in the beauty and exactness of their illustrations are unsurpassed. To render the set unimpeachable, the HORNBILLS (the only one of Elliot's folio works in two states) has been supplied in the extremely rare LARGE PAPER condition.

The plates, the work of the author, Keulemans, Joseph Wolf, W. Hart, and J. Smit, were drawn in the highest style of art, and the colouring effected by the best colourists of London.
