Prayer.

COLLECT, EPISTLE, GOSPel.

1. In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. PHIL. iv. 6.

2. I exhort, therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority: that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1 TIM. ii. 1, 2.

3. I will, therefore, that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 1 TIM, ii. 8.

4. Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? ST. MARK Xi. 17.

5. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ROM. viii. 26.

6. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. `B. iv. 16.

The mercy and pity of God.

COLLECT, EPISTLE, GOSPEL.

1. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. EXODUS xxxiv. 6.

2. For thou, Lord, art good and ready to forgive, and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. Ps. lxxxvi. 5.

3. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Ps. ciii. 11.

4. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. ISAIAH lv. 7.

5. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. PSALM

ciii. 13.

6. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, The God of all comfort. 2 COR. i. 3.

How does God most chiefly declare his almighty power? (Collect.)

God willing to hear and answer prayer.

1. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. Ps. lxvi. 18.

2. The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. Ps. cxlv. 18.

3. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. 1 PET. iii. 12.

4. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. 1 JOHN v. 14.

5. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ST. MATT. vii. 7.

6. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. ST. JOHN xvi. 23.
