Anger and Revenge.

COLLECT, EPISTLE.

1. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. PROV. xvi. 32.

2. But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. ST. MATT. v. 22.

3. Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work. PROV. xxiv. 29.

4. See that none render evil for evil unto 1 THES. V. any man. 15.

5. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. ROM. xii. 19.

6. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Rom. xii. 20-1.

EPISTLE, ARTICLE XXXVII.

1. My son, fear thou the LORD and the king; and meddle not with them that are given to change. PROV. xxiv. 21.

2. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 1 PETER ii. 13.

3. Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 1 PETER ii. 14.

4. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Roм. xiii. 1.

5. Whosoever, therefore, resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. ROM. xiii. 2.

6. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. ROM. xiii. 5.
