Easter is the great festival of the yearly commemoration of our Saviour's resurrection. This was the birth-day of our Saviour in his state of glory and exaltation, as his nativity was his birth-day to his state of humiliation.

The commemoration of our Saviour's resurrection should tend to confirm our belief in his holy religion, which received the utmost confirmation by his resurrection. It should quicken our repentance, and increase our faith, since we are assured by that event that he has made full satisfaction for our sins, and that by believing in him we may obtain remission of them, and the justification of our persons. The contemplation of the resurrection of Christ should also excite us to rise from the death of sin to the life of righteousness, that by the grace of the Holy Spirit we may be meet to be counted children of the resurrection. And we should be led, by a due commemoration of this festival, to live under a more lively sense of that happiness which our Lord has completely purchased for us by rising from the dead; to set our affections upon things above; and to breathe after that state of unspeakable and endless bliss, that perfect freedom from sin and misery, which the saints enjoy in heaven.
