The way of the just is uprightness;

Thou most upright doth weigh the path of the just.

Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, Have we waited for Thee !

The desire of our soul is to Thy name,

And to the remembrance of Thee.

Isaiah xxvi. 4-8.

SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY.

Epistle, 1 John iii. 1-8.
Matins, Isaiah lxv.

Gospel, Matt. xxiv. 23—31.
Evensong, Isaiah lxvi.

(7's.)

45.
He shall gather the Lambs.
GRACIOUS Saviour, full of love,
Looking down from heaven above,
Bless the children of thy flock,
Heavenly truth to them unlock.

They have been baptized to thee,
Members, children, heirs they be ;
Sanctify them through thy truth,
Keep them from the sins of youth.
Round them roareth all the day,
Satan, thirsting for his prey!
Lo! his eye is on them now,
None can keep them safe but Thou.
In thine everlasting arms,

They are safe from deadly harms;
And in heaven their angels see
God thy Father's face-and Thee.

46.

Pure Religion and undefiled.

WHEREWITH shall I come before the Lord,
And bow myself before the High God?
He hath showed thee, O man, what is good.
And what doth the Lord require of thee,
But to do justly, and to love mercy,
And to walk humbly with thy God.

Micah vi. 6-8.

SEPTUAGESIMA SUNDAY.

(The Ninth Sunday before Easter.)

Epistle, 1 Cor. ix. 24-27. Gospel, Matt. xx. 1-16.

Matins, Genesis i.

Evensong, Genesis ii.

47.God deals not with us as we deserve. (s. M.)

How many are our sins!

Far more than we can tell;
We're sinners soon as life begins,
And sin will lead to hell!

But we are kept alive;

And why should we complain,
If God our Father with us strive,
By trouble, grief, or pain?

And though He dwells in heaven,
He looks on us with love:

His Son to save us He hath given,
That we might live above.

Praise Him who came to save,
And turn us back from sin;
But O! make haste, in case the grave
Should close ere you begin!

48.

I thought on my Ways.

WHEREFORE doth a living man complain, A man, for the punishment of his sins? Let us search and try our ways,

And turn again to the Lord.

Let us lift up our hearts with our hands, Unto God in the heavens.-Lament. iii. 39.

SEXAGESIMA SUNDAY.

Epistle, 2 Cor. xi. 19-31.

Matins, Genesis iii.

Gospel, Luke viii. 4—15.
Evensong, Genesis vi.

49. Unworthy to be called thy Son! (L.M.)

O CHRIST, the Vine, where is the fruit
Which we, thy grafts, should bear for Thee?
We draw our life from Thee the Root,
But worthless branches, Lord, are we!

Dark are our hearts, and sure to stray,
And Thou alone canst give us sight;
We wander from the Gospel way,
And cannot see without thy light.

Yet we are thine-create us new ;
O send thy Holy Spirit down;
Work in us both to will and do,
And guide us to our heavenly crown.

Give us a nature mild and kind,
A broken spirit, meek and poor;
A lowly, childlike, waiting mind,
Which kneels before our Father's door.

50. The Good and Great God.

THE Lord is gracious and full of compassion;

Slow to anger and of great mercy.

The Lord is good to all;

And His tender mercies are over all His works.

All Thy works shall praise Thee, O Lord; And Thy saints shall bless Thee.

Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.-Psalm cxlv. 8.

QUINQUAGESIMA SUNDAY.

Epist. 1 Cor. xiii. 1-13. Gosp. Luke xviii. 31-43. Matins, Gen. ix. 1-20. Evensong, Gen. xii.

[blocks in formation]

FULL of mercy, full of love,
Shine upon us from above!
To the blind thou gavest sight,
'Twas to him a double light.
Thou didst bid the deaf to hear,
At thy voice the dumb spake clear;
Lame men leaped at thy command,
Strength renewed the withered hand.

D

(7's.)

Dead were called to life and day;
Lepers' taint was cleansed away;
Evil spirits, forced to flee,

Left their suffering prisoners free.
So let mercy, so let love,
Shine upon us from above:
Of one family are we,
Brotherly then let us be.

52. If we love one another God dwelleth in us. WHOSO hath this world's good,

And seeth his brother have need,

And shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him,

How dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue,

But in deed and in truth.

He that loveth not his brother, whom he hath seen,

How can he love God, whom he hath not seen?-1 John iii. 17, and iv. 20.

Matins, Ps. vi., xxxii., xxxviii.
Evensong, Ps. cii., cxxx., cxliii.

53.

God be merciful to us!

O LORD, turn not thy face from us,
Who lie in woful state,

(C. M.)
