Whose every sin is covered o'er,
And blotted out in heaven.

Yea blessed is the man
To whom the Lord of grace
Imputeth not iniquity;-
În him no guile hath place.

When I forebore to speak
I pined with restless cry;
Thy hand was heavy day and night,
My withering soul grew dry.

I opened all my heart,

And owned my guilt to Thee;
I said I will confess to God,-
And Thou forgavest me.

[blocks in formation]

WHEN he came to himself, he said,
How many hired servants of my father,
Have bread enough and to spare,

And I perish with hunger!

I will arise and go to my father,
And will say unto him,

Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee,

And am no more worthy to be called thy

son:

Make me as one of thy hired servants.

And he arose, and came to his father.

The solemn Bell.

(L.M.)

OFT as the bell with solemn toll
Marks the departure of a soul,
Let each one ask himself, am I
Prepared should I be called to die.
Only my frail and fleeting breath,
Preserves me from the gates of death,
Soon as it fails, at once I'm gone,
And wake within a world unknown.
O Saviour, help me now to flee,
And seek my hope alone on Thee;
For I am Thine,-Thy Spirit give,
Cleanse and renew and make me live.

So when the solemn bell I hear,
I'll trust in Thee and will not fear:
And my calm thoughts shall always be,
Perhaps it next may toll for me.

64. The Lord's Dealings with his People.

I WILL mention the loving-kindness of the
Lord:

For he said, Surely they are my people,
Children that will not lie :

So He was their Saviour.

In all their affliction He was afflicted,
And the angel of His presence saved them:
In his love and in His pity He redeemed
them;

And he bare them and carried them all the days of old.-Isaiah lxiii. 7.

Palm Sunday Hosannah.

to v. 11.

(7's.)

CHILDREN sang to Christ this day,
Sang Hosannahs to his name,
Strewing palms before his way,
When unto His house he came.

Babes and sucklings poured forth praise,
Then unto King David's Son :
Bless him now in these our days,
For the wonders He hath done.

Be this day a day of joy ;
Children, 'tis for you to sing!
Hearts and tongues in praise employ,
Unto Christ our Heavenly King!

Children of God's Church rejoice,
Jesus Christ hath come to save!
Praise ye him with cheerful voice
For your home beyond the grave.

66.

The Example of Christ.

CHRIST also suffered for us,

Leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps.

Who did no sin, Neither was guile found in his mouth.

Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again :

When He suffered, He threatened not,

But committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.

Who, His ownself bare our sins,

In his own body on the tree;
That we, being dead to sins,
Should live unto righteousness;
By whose stripes ye were healed.
For ye were as sheep going astray;
But are now returned

Unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.-1 Peter ii. 21.

67. He hath borne our Griefs.
JESUS came in grief to dwell;
All our troubles he can tell :
Deepest pain for us he bore,
Now he ne'er can suffer more!

He is gone to glory bright,
He is gone to endless light;
Though he seems so far away,
He can hear us when we pray.

Poor and lowly if we be,
He was once as poor as we:
Grief and sorrow if we know,
He has felt as heavy woe.

When he comes on earth again,
Rich in power, he comes to reign:
We shall see him in the sky,
On his throne exalted high.

Light in the Grave.

DARK and dreary was the way
Down into the silent grave,
Till the blessed Saviour lay
Three days there, mankind to save.

It was dark as long as sin
Made it but the gate of hell:
Now it has a light within,
'Tis the gate of heaven as well.
