ing GOD afterwards! what would they do, nay, what would they not do, that should be pleasing to him, if their peace could but once be made with him? But alas! it cannot be, they have missed their time for repentance and amendment, all opportunities for that are now lost, and gone, and at an end with their lives here must they dwell with accursed spirits, and be miserable with them for ever.'

;

The Conclusion.

OH! that men therefore would be now so wise, while they are in health, and have time for it, as to consider seriously beforehand, what the dismal consequence will be, of indulging themselves in all manner of sin and licentiousness, and of enticing and encouraging others to do the same! Let them call themselves often most seriously to an account for their past actions; and where they find themselves to have been guilty of any thing of this nature, let them truly humble themselves before GOD for it, and with all their souls earnestly implore his pardon for what they have done, and immediately endeavour to change the course of their lives, that so by their after behaviour, they may make all the amends they possibly can to those they have injured, and beg GOD's pardon for them, as well as for themselves; and most earnestly beseech him to give them all grace to reform and amend their wicked ways; that they may never come into that dreadful place, ordained for ungodly and impenitent sinners. And who knows, but that (if they will do thus, and be sincere in their repentance) the God of infinite compassion may take pity on them, in their forlorn condition, and "for the infinite merits of his dear Son our Saviour JESUS CHRIST" may receive

them to mercy, admit them among other true penitents, to be partakers of that happiness which he has prepared for his faithful servants hereafter in heaven; that they may there, together with them, rejoice with exceeding joy, and sing praises to God the Father, and their blessed Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, three persons, but one GOD, with the holy angels and saints, for ever.

A Prayer to be delivered from the Torments of Hell.

O ETERNAL and most gracious Father, who hast declared in thy holy Word, that thou desirest not the death of a sinner, but that he should rather repent, and turn from his sins and be saved; and for that end hast encouraged us to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may find mercy in the time of need: O do thou vouchsafe to hear the prayers and cries of me thy sinful creature, who do most earnestly implore thy mercy in the pardon of all my sins, for the sake of thy dear Son, and my dear Redeemer, JESUS CHRIST, who suffered and died once a most bitter death upon the cross, that we might not die and suffer eternally. Amen, Amen.

O GOD, the Father of Heaven, have mercy upon me, miserable sinner; and from thy wrath, and from everlasting damnation, good Lord, deliver me.

Another.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, the Creator and Maker of all men, and who hast in thy great wisdom placed us here in this world between an infinite eternity of happiness and misery, in a capacity of obtaining the one,

and in danger of incurring the other; give me, I most humbly beseech thee, the spirit of wisdom from above to discern the vast disproportion there is between the short moment of this present time, and the infinite duration of eternity; between the pleasures which are at thy right hand for evermore, and the pleasures of sin, which are but for a season. O let the transcendent excellency of the heavenly joy which is set before me, inspire me with such vigour and alacrity in the ways of godliness, that whatever difficulties there may be in them at present, I may not be discouraged from walking stedfastly in them; but being assisted by the grace of thy Holy Spirit, may with a holy resolution and faithfulness press forward, till through thy abundant mercy and goodness, and the infinite merits of my Saviour, I do attain it. And moreover, for a greater security of it, let the frequent meditation of Hell, and the unspeakable miseries of it, which thou hast threatened to the wicked and ungodly, be a powerful preservative to deter me from all ways leading to that dreadful place. That so when thou shalt be pleased to call me out of this world, I may depart in peace, and be prepared to partake with thee, and all thy holy angels and saints, in the joys of thy everlasting kingdom. Amen.

THE END.
