Vol. IX., to the Crown of Great Britain in the Proteftant Line, It was enacted amongst other Things, That no Office, Place, or Employment Civil, or Military, within the Kingdoms of Great Britain or Ireland, Dominion of Wales, Town of Berwick upon Tweed, Ines of Jerfey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, fhould become void by reafon of the Demife of Her faid late Majefty, Her Heirs or Succeffors, Kings or Queens of this Realm, but that every Perfon and Perfons, in any of the Offices, Places and Employments aforesaid fhould Continue in their respective Offices, Places, and Employments for the Space of Six Months next after fuch Death or Demife unless fooner Removed and Difcharged by the next Succeffor to whom the Imperial Crown of this Realm was Limitted and Appointed to Go, Remain and Defcend And in Regard that that time bath been found not to be fufficient for Refettling all the faid Offices, We for the Preventing the Inconveniencies that may happen by the fame becoming void, in Our Princely Wifdom aad Care of the State (Referving to Our Judgment hereafter the Reformation and Redress of any Abufes in Mifgovernment upon due Knowledge and Examination thereof) are Pleafed, and do hereby Order, Signifie, Grant, and Declare, That all Perfons that, at the time of the Deceafe of Her faid late Majefty were Duly and Lawfully Poffeffed of, or Invested in any Office, Place or Imployment, Civil or Military, within the Kingdoms of Great Britain or Ireland, Dominion of Wales, Town of Berwick upon Tweed, Iles of Jerfey, Guernfey, Alderney, and Sark, and which have not fince been Removed from fuch the Offices Places or

Imployments

Imployments, fhall be and fhall hold themselves Vol IX. Continued in and fhall Hold and Execute the faid Offices, Places, or Employment's, as formerly they Held. Enjoyed, and Executed the fame, for the Space of Three Months from the Date hereof, unless fooner Removed and Dif charged by Us. And in the mean time for the Prefervation of the Peace, and neceffary Proceedings to Matters by Justice, and for the Safety and Service of the State, We do hereby ftrictly Command all the faid Perfons of whatfoever Degree or Condition, That they do not fail every one feverally, according to his Place Office or Charge, to proceed in the Performance and Execution of all Duties thereunto belonging as formerly appertained unto them, and every of them, while the faid late Queen was Living And further We do hereby Will and Command all and fingular Our Loving Subjects, of what Eftate or Degree they or any of them be, to be Aiding, Helping and Affifting, at the Commandment of the faid Officers in the Perfor mance and Execution of the faid Offices and Places, as they Tender our Difpleafure, and will anfwer for the Contrary at their utmost Perils. Given at Our Court at St. James's the Fifteenth Day of January 1714. In the First Year of Our Reign.

At the fame Time, alfo, his Majesty was pleafed to Sign another PROCLAMATION, for the Discovering and Apprehending of the Perfons who barbarously Wounded and Maimed John Mac-Allen, an Officer of Excife in Scotland, for refufing to drink fome Jacobite or Tory Healths: Which was as follows:

Prociam. for Hereas We have Received Information, WB That upon the Thirtieth Day of Nodiscovering vember last, between the Hours of Twelve Maimed John and One in the Morning, at Creif in PerthMack Allen. fhire, in that Part of Our Kingdom of Great Britain called Scotland, feveral Perfons in Highland Habits, with their Face Difcoloured and Armed with Sword, Durk, and Piftol, broke into the Lodgings of John Mac-Allen, one of our Officers of Excife, and Barbarously and Inhumanly Beat, Bruifed, and Wounded the faid John Mack-Allen in feveral Parts of his Body and Cut off great Part of his Right Ear, We out of our Royal Inclination to Fuftice, and to the Intent that fuch Offences may be Difcovered and Punished, whereby all others may be Deterred from Committing the like Crimes, have thought fit, by the Advice of Our Privy-Council, to ffue, this Our Royal Proclamation; And We are hereby Gracionfly pleafed to promife, That if any Perfon hall Discover any other Perfon or Perfons concerned in the faid Barbarous Falt, fo as he or they may be Apprehended and Brought to Justice fuch Difcoverer shall have and Receive as a Reward for fuch Difcovery the Sum of Two hundred Pounds, Whereof our Commiffioners for Executing the Office of Treasurer of Our Exchequer are hereby Required to make Payment accordingly: And if any Perfon concerned therein fhall Difcover any One or moreof his Accomplices fo as he or they may be Apprehended and brought to Justice fuch Difcoverer fhall have and Receive the faid Reward of Two hundred Pounds, and alfo Our Gracious Pardon for his faid Offence. That this Our Proclamation be Published in
the ufual Form, that none may pretend Ig-
norance; and We Ordain the Prefents to be
Printed, and Our Sollicitors to dispatch Copies
in the ufual manner.

Two Days after, his Majefty figned the Proclam. for following PROCLAMATION, in order to Eleding the 16 Peers of the Electing and Summoning the Sixteen Scotland. Peers of Scotland:

Whereas We have in Council thought fit to

Declare Our Pleasure, for Summoning and Holding a Parliament of Great Britain, on Thursday the Seventeenth Day of March next enfuing the Date hereof. In order therefore to the Electing and Summoning the Sixteen Pers of Scotland, who are to fit in the House of Peers in the faid Parliament, We do, by Advice rf our Privy Council, fue forth this Our Royal Proclamation, Strictly Charging and Commanding all the Peers of Scotland to Affemble and Meet at Our Royal Palace of Holy-Rood Houfe in Edinburgh,, on Tharfday the Third Day of March next enfuing, between the Hours of Twelve and Two in the Af ternoon, to Nóminate and Chuse the Sixteen Peers to Sit and Vote in the House of Peers in the faid enfuing

Vol. IX. enfuing Parliament, by open Election and Plurality of Voices of the Peers that shall be then prefent, and of the Proxies for such as shall be Abfent, fuch Proxies being Peers, and producing a Mandate in Writing, duly Signed before Witneffes, and both the Constituent and Proxy being Qualified accor ding to Law. And the Lord Clerk Regifter, or Such Two of the Principal Clerks of the Seffion, as fhall be appointed by him to Officiate in his Name, are hereby refpectively Required to Attend fuch Meeting, and to Adminifter the Oaths Required by Law to be Taken there by the faid Peers, and to take their Votes, and immediately after fuch Election made, and duly examined, to Certifie the Names of the Sixteen Peers fo Elected, and Sign and Atteft the fame in the prefence of the faid Peers the Electors, and Return fuch Certificate into Our High Court of Chancery of Great Britain. And we ftrictly Charge and Command, That this Our Royal Proclamation be duly Publifhed at the Market Crofs at Edinburgh, and in all the County Towns of Scotland, Twenty five Days at leaft before the time hereby Appointed for the Meeting of the faid Peers to Proceed to fuch Election.
