LESSON X.

The Promise.
GE. III. 14, 15.

14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field: upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust sha't thou eat

all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity be tween thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

WHAT reason did the Lord give for cursing the serpent?
What had the serpent done? v. 13.

Above what was he cursed? How should he go?
What should he eat? IIow long should he eat dust?
Do serpents really eat dust? ANS. Not any more than
some other creatures.

What then is meant by eating dust? ANs. It is a figurative expression denoting a very low and degraded

state.

What did God say he would put between the serpent and the woman?

And what would he put between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman?

What should the seed of the woman bruise?

What should the serpent bruise?

Who is meant by the seed of the woman? Ga. 4: 4, 5. 1 Jn. 3: 8, 1. c.

How has Christ bruised the serpent's head? Mar. 9: 25, 26. Lu. 10: 18. 11: 20-22. Jn. 12; 31. Co. 2: 15. He. 2: 14, 1. c.

Who are impenitent sinners? ANS. Those who are in a state of nature-who have not repented of their sins, believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, and become new

creatures.

Who can deliver you from the power of Satan? Co. 1: 12-14. 1 Pe. 2: 9, 1. c.

What is a kingdom? ANs. It is like a family, in which many are governed by a few.

Who compose the kingdom of Satan? ANs. The kingdom of Satan is composed of impenitent sinners, who are governed by him, and called his children. Jn. 8: 44. What is the kingdom of God's dear Son? ANs. The church of Christ; all who love Jesus, for they are governed by him, and called the children of God. What is the condition of those that belong to the kingdom of Satan? Ro. 6: 16.

What kind of service have they? Pr. 13: 15, 1. c. What is the condition of those who belong to the kingdom of God's dear Son? Jn. 15: 14

Which would you rather be, the friends of Jesus, or the servants of Satan?

What kind of service have they who yield or give themselves to Christ? Mat. 11: 30.

What did God show himself to be, when he promised the Savior to Adam and Eve, so soon after they had sin ned? Ex. 34: 6.

Would they have had any reason to complain, if he had left them without any hope?

To whom did God next promise the Savior? Ge. 12: 1, 3. Ga. 3: 8.

To whom was this promise repeated? Ge. 26: 4. 28: 14. By whom did God afterwards speak to the people about Christ? De. 18: 15-19. Ac. 3: 22-24.

What did the prophet Isaiah say about the coming of Christ? Is. 7: 14.

What did Isaiah ́say about his dying for our sins? Is. 53: 5.

How ought you to feel towards the Lord Jesus, on account of his being willing to die for your sins? How was the death of Christ represented, before he came ? ANS. By sacrifice.

What was a sacrifice?

ANS. The people killed a lamb, or some other animal that was good to eat, and burni it on an altar.

What is an altar? ANs. It is a place built of earth or stones or brass, to burn sacrifices upon.

What was this done for? ANS. To show that our sins could not be pardoned without the shedding of blood. He. 9: 22.

What does blood represent? Ge. 9: 4.

Would God have been true to his word, if he had par doned Adam and his sinful children without the shed. ding of blood? Ge. 2: 17.

How can he now be true to his word, and pardon those that repent of their sins, and believe in Christ? Ga. 3: 13.

tod felt so much for sinners as to give his dear Son to die for them, how should they feel for themselves!

LESSON XI.

Adam the father of all mankind-Children are like ther parents-No good in us by nature.

GE. III. 20. v. 3. vI. 5. Ps. LIII. 2, 3.

20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

3 And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth.

5 And GoD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination

of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.

3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

WHAT did Adam call his wife's name?
Why did he call her Eve?

Who are meant by all living? ANS. All the people that have ever lived, or that ever will live.

Who was the father of all living?

Did Adam and Eve have any children before the fall? What was the moral character of their children, after the fall? Ro. 5: 19.

Who are children like?

If Adam and Eve were sinners, what would their chil dren be? Jn. 3: 6. 1 Co. 15: 47, 48.

What has come upon all men, by reason of Adam's sin? Ro. 5: 12, 18.

In whose likeness did Adam beget a son ?

After whose image?

If Adam begat a son in his own likeness, after his own image, would he be good, or bad?

When there were a great many people in the world, wha di? God see?

What was every imagination of man's heart?

How much of the time was every imagination of his heart evil?

Was it any thing else but evil?

Could there be any good in it?

For what did God look down from heaven upon the chil dren of men?

Did he find any one that had not gone back?

What is meant by gone back? ANS. Sinners are more and more unlike God, the more they sin, and that is called going back.

What had they altogether become?
What is meant by filthy?

filth;

ANS. Sin is compared to

and so a sinner is called filthy. Was there one that did good?

Did any man ever do good and sin not? Ec. 7; 20. Ro 3: 23.

What are we all, by nature? Ep. 2: 3, 1. c.

In what are all, by nature, dead? Ep. 2: 1.

If there is no good in our hearts, by nature, can we do any thing pleasing to God, till our hearts are changed Ro. 8: 8.

When people's hearts are changed, what is it called! Jn. 3: 3.

Who can change our hearts? Jn. 3: 5.

Do sinners wish to have their hearts changed? Jn. 3: 19 If they love their sins better than they love eternal life can they blame God, if he lets them die in their sins?

LESSON XII.

The Savior.

7 And she brought forth her irst-born son, and wrapped him m swaddling-clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
