and whereunto' shall I resemble it? 19 It is like a gra’in of mustard-se'ed, which a man took, and cast' in'to his ga'rden; and it grew, and waxed a grea't tree; and the fowls of the a'ir lodged in the bran ́ches of it. 20 And again' he said, Whereunto' shall I liken the kin'gdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took' and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 22 And he went through the cit'ies and villages, te'aching, and jour'neying to'ward Jeru'salem. 2 23 Then said one un'to him, Lo'rd, are there few' that be sa'ved? And he said un'to them, 24 Stri've to enter in at the stra'it ga'te: for man'y, I say un'to you, will seek to en'ter in, and shall not be a'ble. 25 When once the Ma'ster of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the do'or, and ye begin' to stand without', and to knock at the do'or, sa'ying, Loʻrd, Lo'rd, o'pen un'to us; and he shall an'swer and say un'to you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin' to say, We have e'aten and drunk in thy pres'ence, and thou hast taught in our stre'ets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are: depa'rt from me, all 'ye' work'ers of iniquity. 28 There shall be we'eping and gnash'ing of te'eth, when ye shall see A'braham, and I'ṣaac, and Ja'cob, and a'll the prophets, in the kingdom of Go'd, and you yourselves' thrust out. 29 And they shall come from the e'ast, and from❜ the west, and from the north, and 'from' the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of Go'd. 30 And, behold, there are last' which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last'. 31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, sa'ying un'to him, Get thee out, and depa'rt hence: for Her'od will kill thee. 32 And he said un'to them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast' out dev'ils, and I do cu'res to-da'y and to-morrow, and the third' 'day' I shall be perfected. 33 Nevertheless' I must walk to-da'y and to-morrow, and the 'day' following: for it can'not be that a proph'et per'ish out of Jeru'salem. 34 O Jeru'salem, Jerusalem, which killest the proph'ets, and sto'nest them that are sent unto thee; how of'ten would I have gathered thy children togeth'er, as a hen doth gath'er' her bro'od un'der 'her' wings, and ye would' not! ho'ld, your house is left un'to you des'olate and verily T say un'to you, Ye shall not see me, until the time' 35 Be come when ye shall say, Bles'sed 'is' he that com'eth in the name of the Lo'rd. CHAP. XIV. And it came to pass', as he went in'to the house of one of the chie'f Pharisees to eat bread on the sab'bath-day, that they watch'ed him. 2 And, behoʻld, there was a certain man befo're him which had the drop'sy. 3 And Je'sus, an'swering, spake un'to the lawyers and Pharisees, sa'ying, Is it la'wful to he'al on the sab'bath-day? And they held their peace. And he took him' and he'aled him, and let him go; 5 And an'swered them, sa'ying, Which of you shall have an ass' or an ox fa'llen in'to a pit, and will not straightway pull' him out on the sab'bath-day? 6 And they could not an'swer him again' to these things. 7 And he put fo'rth a par'able to those which were bid'den, when he ma'rked how they chose out the chief rooms; sa'ying un'to them, 8 When thou art bid'den of an'y 'man' to a wedding, sit not down in the highest ro'om, lest a more honourable man than thou be bid'den of him; 9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin' with sha'me to take the lo'west room. 10 But, when thou art bid'den, go and sit down in the lowest ro'om; that when he that bade thee com'eth, he may say un'to thee, Friend, go up higher then shalt thou have wor'ship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoev'er exalteth himself' shall be aba'sed; and he that humbleth himself' shall be exalted. 12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou ma'kest a din'ner or a sup'per, ca'll not thy friends, nor thy breth'ren, ne'ither thy kins'men, nor 'thy' rich ne'ighbours; lest they also bid thee again', and a rec'ompence be made thee. 13 But when thou ma'kest a feast, ca'll the po'or, the ma'imed, the la'me, the blind: 14 And thou shalt be bless'ed; for they can'not rec'ompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. 15 And when one of them that sat at me'at with him heard these things, he said un'to him, Bles'sed 'is' he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of Go'd. 16 Then said he un'to him, A certain man made a grea't sup'per, and bade man'ý: 17 And sent his servant at sup'per-time to say to them that were bid'den, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they a'll with one 'consent'' began' to make excu'se. The first said un'to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must ne'eds go and see it: I pray thee have me excu'sed. 19 And anoth'er said, I have bought five yoke of ox'en, and I go to pro've them: I pray thee have me excu'sed. 20 And anoth'er said, I have married a wife, and therefore I can'not come. 21 So that servant came, and shewed his lo'rd these things. Then the master of the house, be'ing an'gry, said to his servant, Go out quickly in'to the stre'ets and la'nes of the city, and bring in hith'er the po'or, and the ma'imed, and the ha'lt, and the bli'nd. 22 And the ser'vant said, Lo'rd, it is done as thou hast comman'ded, and yet there is ro'om. 23 And the Lo'rd said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hed'ges, and compel' them' to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say un'to you, That none of those men which were bid den shall ta'ste of my sup'per. 25 And there went grea't multitudes with him: and he turned, and said un'to them, 26 If an'y 'man' come to me, and hate not his father, and moth'er, and wife, and children, and breth'ren, and sis'ters, yea, and his own life a'lso, he can'not be my disci'ple. 27 And whosoever doth not bea'r his cross, and come after me, can'not be my disci'ple. 28 For which of you, inten'ding to build a tower, sit'teth not down first and coun'teth the cost, wheth'er he have sufficient' to finish it?' 29 Lest hap'ly, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to fin'ish ‘it,' a'll that behold 'it' begin' to mock him, 30 Sa'ying, This man began to build, and was not able to fin'ish. 31 Or what king, go'ing to make wa'r against another king, sit'teth not down first, and consul'teth wheth'er he be a'ble with ten thou'sand to me'et him that com'eth against him with twen'tý thou'sand? 32 Or else, while the oth'er is yet a great way off, he send'eth an am'bassage, and desi'reth conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whosoev'er he be of you that forsa'keth not all that he hạth, he can'not be my disci'ple. 34 Salt 'is' good' but if the salt have lost his sa'vour, wherewith' shall it be se'asoned? 35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dun'ghill; 'but' men cast' it out. He that hath ears to he'ar, let him he'ar. CHAP. XV. Then drew ne'ar un'to him a'll the publicans and sin'ners for to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes mur'mured, sa'ying, This man rece'iveth sin'ners, and e'ateth with them. 3 And he spake this parable un'to them, sa'ying, 4 What man of you, hav'ing an hun'dred she'ẹp, if he lo'se one of them, doth not le'ave the ni'nety and ni'ne in the wil'derness and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it,' he la'yeth 'it' on his sho'ulders, rejoi'cing. 6 And when he com'eth ho'me, he calleth togeth'er 'his' friends and neighbours, sa'ying un'to them, Rejoi'ce with me; for I have found my she'ep which was lost. 7 I say un'to you, That li'kewise joy shall be in heaven o'ver one sin'ner that repen'teth, more than o'ver ni'nety and ni'ne just per'sons, which ne'ed no repentance. 8 Either what wom'an, having ten pie'ces of silver, if she lo'se one pie'ce, doth not light a can'dle, and swe'ep the house, and se'ęk diligently till she find it?' 9 And when she hath found it,' she ca'lleth 'her' friends and 'her' neighbours togeth'er, sa'ying, Rejoi'ce with me; for I have found the pie'ce which I had lost. 10 Li'kewise, I say un'to you, There is joy in the presence of the a'ngels of Go'd o'ver one sin'ner that repen'tẹth. 15 11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the youn'ger of them said to 'his' fa'ther, Father, give me the portion of good's that fa'lleth 'to me.' And he divi'ded un'to them 'his' living. 13 And not man'y days af'ter, the younger son gath'ered a'll togeth'er, and took' his journey in'to a fa'r coun'try, and the're wa'sted his sub'stance with ri'otous living. 14 And when he had spent a'll, there aro'se a might'y fam'ine in that land; and he began to be in want'. And he went and joined himself' to a citizen of that coun'try; and he sent him in'to his fields to fe'ed swi'ne. 16 And he would fa'in have filled his bel'ly with the husks that the swi'ne did e'at: and no man ga've un'to him. 17 And when he ca'me to himself', he said, How mạn'y hi'red servants of my father's have bread enough, and to spa're, and I per'ish with hun'ger! 18 I will ari'se and go to my father, and will say un'to him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven, and befo're the'e, 19 And am more worthy to be called thy son: ma'ke me as one of thy hi'red servants. 20 And he aro'se, and ca'me to his fa'ther. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compass'ion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said un'to him, Father, I have sinned against' Heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring fo'rth the best roʻbę, and put' 'it' on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on 'his' feet: 23 And bring hith'er the fat'ted calf, and kill 'it; and let us e'at, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is ali've again'; he was lost, and is found. And they began' to be mer'ry. 25 Now his el'der son was in the field and as he ca'me and drew nigh to the house, he heard mu'sick and dan'cing. 26 And he called one of the servants, and ask'ed what these things meant. 27 And he said unto him, Thy broth'er is come; and thy father hath killed the fat'ted calf, because he hath received him sa'fe and sound. 28 And he was an'gry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and entre'ated him. 29 And he answering, said to 'his' father, Lo, these man'y ye'ars do I serve thee; neither transgress'ed I at an'y time thy command'ment; and yet thou never ga'vest me a kid, that I might make mer'ry with my friends: 30 But as so'on as this thy son was come, which hath devou'red thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fat'ted calf. 31 And he said un'to him, Son, thou art ev'er with me, and a'll that I hav'e is thi'ne. 32 It was me'et that we should make mer'ry, and be glad for this thy broth'er was dead', and is alive again'; and was lost', and is found'. CHAP XVI. And he said also un'to his disci'ples, There was a certain rich man which had a steward; and the sa'me was accu'sed un'to him that he had wa'sted his good's. 2 And he called him, and said un'to him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account' of thy stew'ardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. 3 Then the steward said within' himself', What shall I do? for my lo'rd ta'keth awa'y from me the stewardship: I can'not dig; to beg I am ashamed. 4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me in'to their hou'ses. 5 So he called every one of his lo'rd's debt'ors 'un'to him,' and said un'to the first, How much o'west thou un'to my lo'rd? 6 And he said, An hun'dred meas'ures of oil. And he said un'to him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fif'ty. 7 Then said he to another, And how much o'west thou? And he said, An hun'dred measures of wheat. And he said un'to him, Take thy bill, and write fo'ursco're. And the lo'rd commen'ded the unjust stew'ard, because he had done wi'sely for the chil'dren of this world are in their genera'tion wi'ser than the children of light. 9 And I say un'to |
