the first, and of the oth'er which was cru'cified with him. 33 But when they came to Je'sus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: 34 But one of the soldiers with a spe'ar pierced his side, and forthwith' came there out' blood and wa'ter. 35 And he that saw 'it' bare rec'ord, and his record is true; and he kno'weth that he saith true, that ye might belie've. 36 For these things were done, that the scrip'ture should be fulfill'ed, A bo'ne of him shall not be broken. 37 And again' anoth'er scrip'turę saith, They shall look' on him whom they pie'rced.

38 And after this Jo'seph of Arimathe'a, (be'ing a disci'ple of Je'sus, but se'cretly for fear of the Jews,) beso'ught Pi'late that he might take awa'y the body of Je'sus: and Pi'late gave him' le'ave. He came therefore, and took' the body of Je'ṣus. 39 And there came also Nicode'mus, (which at the first came to Je'sus by night',) and bro'ught a mixture of myrrh and al'oes, about' an hun'dred pound weight.' 40 Then took' they the bod'y of Je'sus, and wound it in lin'en clothes with the spi'ces, as the man'ner of the Jews is to bur'y. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sep'ulchre, wherein' was nev'er man yet la'id. 42 The're laid they Jesus ther'efore because of the Jews' prepara'tionday for the sep'ulchre was nigh at hand.

CHAP. XX. The first day' of the we'ek com'eth Ma'ry Mag'dalene early, when it was yet da'rk, un'to the sep'ulchre, and se'eth the sto'nę ta'ken awa'y from the sep'ulchre. 2 Then she run'neth, and com'eth to Si'mon Pe'ter, and to the oth'er disci'ple whom Je'sus loved, and saith un'to them, They have taken awa'y the Lo'rd out of the sep'ulchre, and we know not where they have la'id him. 3 Pe'ter therefore went fo'rth, and that oth'er disci'ple, and came to the sep'ulchre. 4 So they ran both together and the oth'er disci'ple did outrun' Pe'ter, and came first to the sep'ulchre. 5 And he stooping down, and look'ing in,' saw the lin'en clothes ly'ing; yet went he not in'. 6 Then com'eth Si'mon Pe'ter following him, and went in'to the sep'ulchre, and se'eth the lin'en clo'thes lie, 7 And the nap'kin, that was about his head, not ly'ing with the lin'en clothes, but wrapped togeth'er in a place by itself'. Then went in also that other disci'ple which came first to the sep'ulchre, and he saw, and belie'ved. 9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again' from

the dead. 10 Then the disci'ples went awa'y again' un'to their own ho'mę.

ii But Ma'ry stood' without' at the sep'ulchre we'eping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked' in'to the sep'ulchre, 12 And se'eth two a'ngels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the bod'y of Jesus had lain. 13 And they say un'to her, Wom'an, why we'epest thou? She saith un'to them, Because they have ta'ken awa'y my Lo'rd, and I know not where they have la'id him. 14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself' back, and saw Je'sus stan'ding, and knew not that it was Je'ṣus. 15 Je'sus saith un'to her, Wom'an, why we'epest thou? whom se'ękest thou? She, suppo'sing him to be the gardener, saith un'to him, Sir, if thou have bo'rne him hence, tell me where thou hast la'id him, and I' will take him away. 16 Jesus saith un'to her, Ma'ry. She turned herself', and saith unto him, Rabbo'ni; which is to say, Mas'ter. 17 Je'sus saith un'to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascen'ded to my Father: but go to my breth'ren, and say un'to them, I ascend' un'to my Father, and yo'ur Father; and 'to' my' Go'd, and yo'ur Go'd. 18 Ma'ry Magdalene came and told the disci'ples that she had se'en the Lo'rd, and that' he had spoken these things un'to her.

19 Then the same day at e'vening, be'ing the first 'day' of the we'ek, when the do'ors were shut where the disci'ples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus, and stood' in the midst, and saith un'to them, Pe'ace 'be' un'to you. 20 And when he had so said, he shewed un'to them his hands and his side. Then were the disci'ples glad when they saw the Lo'rd. 21 Then said Je'sus to them again', Peace 'be' un'to you: as 'my' Father hath sent me', e'ven so send I yo'u. 22 And when he had said this, he bre'athed on them,' and saith un'to them, Rece'ive ye the Holy Gho'st. 23 Whose soev'er sins ye remit', they are remit'ted un'to them; 'and' whose soever 'sins' ye reta'in, they are retained.

24 But Thom'as, one of the twelve, called Did'ymus, was not' with them when Je'ṣus came. 25 The oth'er disci'ples therefore said un'to him, We have se'en the Lo'rd. But he said unto them, Except' I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my fin'ger in'to the print of the na'ils, and thrust my hand in'to his side, I will not belje've. 26 And after eight days, again' his disci'ples were within',

and Thom'as with' them. Then' came Je'sus, the do'ors be'ing shut, and stood' in the midst, and said, Pe'ace 'be' un'to you. Then saith he to Thom'as, Re'ach hith'er thy fin'ger, and beho'ld my hands; and reach hith'er thy hand, and thrust 'it' in'to my side: and be not fa'ithless, but belie'ving. 28 And Thom'as an'swered and said un'to him, My Lo'rd and my Go'd. 29 Je'sus saith un'to him, Thom'as, because thou hast se'en me, thou hast belie'ved: bles'sed 'are' they that have not seen, and yet' hav'e belie'ved. 30 And man'y oth'er signs truly did Je'sus in the pres'ence of his disciples, which are not writ'ten in this book': 31 But the'se are writ'ten, that ye might belie've that Je'sus is the Chri'st, the Son of Go'd; and that belie'ving ye might have life through his namẹ.

CHAP. XXI. After these things Je'sus shewed himself' again' to the disci'ples at the se'a of Tibe'rias; and on this wise she'wed he himself'.' 2 There were togeth'er Si'mon Pe'ter, and Thom'as called Did'ymus, and Nathan'ael of Ca'na in Galilee, and the 'sons' of Zeb'edee, and two oth'er of his disci'ples. 3 Si'mon Peter saith un'to them, I go a fish'ing. They say un'to him, We also go with thee. They went fo'rth, and en'tered in'to a ship immediately; and that' night they ca'ught nothing. But when the mo'rning was now come, Je'sus stood' on the sho're; but the disci'ples knew not that it was Je'sus. 5 Then Je'sus saith un'to them, Chil'dren, have ye an'y me'at? They an'swered him, No. 6 And he said un'to them, Cast' the net on the right' side of the ship, and ye shall fi'nd. They cast' therefore; and now they were not able to dra'w it for the mul'titude of fish'es. 7 Therefore that disci'ple whom Je'sus loved saith un'to Pe'ter, It is the Lo'rd. Now when Si'mon Pe'ter heard that it was the Lo'rd, he girt 'his' fish'er's co'at 'un'to him,' (for he was na'ked,) and did cast' himself' in'to the se'a. And the other disci'ples came in a little ship; (for they were not fa'r from land, but as it were two hun'dred cu'bits,) dragging the net with fish'es. 9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of co'als there, and fish la'id thereon', and bread. 10 Je'sus saith un'to them, Bring of the fish which ye have now ca'ught. 11 Si'mon Pe'ter went up, and drew the net to land full' of grea't fish'es, an hun'dred and fif'ty and three and for all there were so man'y, yet was not the net bro'ken. 12 Je'ṣus saith un'to them, Come 'and' dinę. And none of the dis

çi'ples durst ask him, Who art thou? kno'wing that it was the Lord. 13 Je'sus then com'eth, and ta'keth bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. This is now the third'

time that Jesus she'wed himself' to he was ris'en from the dead.

15 So, when they had di'ned, Je'sus saith to Si'mon Pe'ter, Si'mon, son of Jo'nas, lov'est thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lo'rd; thou kno'west that I lov'e thee. He saith un'to him, Fe'ed my lambs. 16 He saith to him again' the second time, Si'mon, 'son' of Jo'nas, lov'est thou me? He saith un'to him, Yea, Lo'rd; thou kno'west that I love thee. He saith un'to him, Fe'ed my she'ep. 17 He saith unto him the third' time, Si'mon, ‘son' of Jo'nas, lovest thou me? Pe'ter was grie'ved beca'use he said un'to him the third time, Lov'est thou me? And he said un'to him, Lo'rd, thou kno'west a'll things; thou kno'west that I love thee. Je'sus saith unto him, Fe'ed my she'ep. 18 Ver'ily, ver'ily, I say un'to thee, when thou wast youn'g, thou gir'dedst thyself', and walkedst whith'er thou wouldest : but when thou shalt be o'ld, thou shalt stretch fo'rth thy hands, and anoth'er shall gird' thee, and carry thee' whith'er thou wouldest not'. 19 This spake he, sig'nifying by what death he should glo'rify Go'd. And when he had spo'ken this, he saith un'to him, Follow me. 20 Then Pe'ter, tur'ning about', se'eth the disci'ple whom Jesus loved following; which also le'aned on his breast at sup'per, and said, Lord, which is he that betra'yeth thee? 21 Pe'ter seeing him, saith to Je'sus, Lo'rd, and what 'shall' this' man 'do?' 22 Jesus saith un'to him, If I will' that he tar'rý till I come, what is that' to the'e? follow thou me. 23 Then went this saying abro'ad among the breth'ren, that that' disci'ple should not di'e: yet Je'sus said not un'to him, He shall not di'e; but, If I will' that he tar'ry till I com'e, what is that to the'e? 24 This' is the disci'ple which tes'tifieth of these things, and wro'te these things; and we know that his tes'timony is true. 25 And there are also man'y other things which Je'sus did, the which, if they should be writ'ten ev'ery one, I suppo'se that e'ven the world itself could not contain the book's that should be writ'ten. THE

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES.

CHAPTER I.

i THE fo'rmer tre'atise have I made, O Theoph'ilus, of all that Jesus began' both to do' and te'ach, 2 Until' the day in which he was ta'ken up, af'ter that he through the Ho'ly Gho'st had given command'ments un'to the apostles whom he had cho'sen: 3 To whom also he she'wed himself' ali've af'ter his passion by man'y infallible proofs, be'ing se'en of them fo'rty days, and spe'aking of the things pertaining to the kin'gdom of Go'd: 4 And, be'ing assem'bled togeth'er with 'them,' comman'ded them that they should not depart' from Jeru'salem, but wa'it for the prom'ise of the Fa'ther, which, 'saith he,' ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be bapti'zed with the Holy Gho'st not man'y days hence. 6 When they therefore were come togeth'er, they ask'ed of him, sa'ying, Lo'rd, wilt thou at this time resto're again' the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for yo'u to kno'w the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put' in his o'wn power. 8 But ye shall receive pow'er, after that the Holy Gho'st is come upon you: and ye shall be wit'nesses un'to me' both in Jerusalem, and in a'll Jude'a, and in Sama'ria, and un'to the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spo'ken these things, while they beheld', he was ta'kẹn up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And, while they look'ed sted'fastly to'ward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood' by them in white appar'el; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye ga'zing up in'to heaven? this same Je'sus which is ta'ken up from you in'to heaven, shall so come in like man'ner as ye have seen him go in'to heaven. 12 Then returned they un'to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sab'bath-day's journey. 13 And when they were come in', they went up in'to an upper-ro'om, where abo'de both Peter, and James, and John, and An'drew, Phil'ip, and Thom'as, Bartholomew, and Matthew, Ja'mes the son of Alphe'us, and Si'mon Zelo'tes, and Ju'das 'the broth'er' of James. 14 These a'll contin'ued with one acco'rd in prayer
