"Woman, believe me, the hour is coming, when ye shall worship the Father neither on this mountain, nor at Jerusalem. 22

swered, and said to her, " If thou hadst known the bounty of God, and who it is that now saith to thee, Give me to drink;' thou wouldst have ask-Ye worship what ye know not: ed of him, and he would have given thee living water."

we worship what we know: for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for indeed the Father seeketh such worshippers of him. 24 God is a spirit: and the worshippers of him ought to worship him in spirit and in truth."

11 The woman said to him, "Sir, thou hast no vessel to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then canst thou have that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and who drank of it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?" 13 Jesus answered, and said to her, "Whosoever drinketh of this water," I know that the Messiah will thirst again: 14 but whosoever shall drink of the water which I will give him, shall not thirst to the age; but the water which I will give him will be in him a well of water springing up to aionian life."

25 The woman said to him,

(which signifieth the Christ) cometh: when he is come, he will tell us all things." 26 Jesus said to her, "I, who talk with thee, am he."

27 And, upon this, his disciples came, and wondered that 15 The woman said to him, he was talking with a woman; "Sir, give me of this water, that yet no one said, "What seekest I thirst not, nor come hither to thou?" or, "Why talkest thou draw." 16Jesus said to her, "Go, with her " 28 The woman call thy husband, and come then left her bucket, and went hither." 17 The woman an-into the city, and said to the swered, and said, "I have no men, 29 "Come, see a man husband." Jesus said to her, who hath told me all things "Thou hast rightly said, 'I whatever I did: is not this the have no husband :' 18 for Christ?" 30 Then they went thou hast had five husbands; out of the city, and came to and he whom thou now hast, is him. not thy husband: thou hast spoken this truly.”

19 The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped on this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." 21 Jesus said to her,

31 [Now] in the mean time, his disciples besought him, saying, "Master, eat." 32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat, which ye know not of." 33 Then the disciples said one to another, "Hath any one brought him any thing to eat?" 34 Jesus I said to them, "My food is, to

do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work..

35"Say ye not, There are [yet] four months, and then cometh the harvest?' Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; behold, I tell you, that they are already white for harvest. 36 And he who reapeth, receiveth wages, and gathereth a crop, to aionian life: that both he who soweth, and he who reapeth, may rejoice together 37 for herein is that saying true, 'One soweth, and another reapeth.' 38 I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured others have laboured, and ye are entered into their labours."

39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him, in consequence of the words of the woman, who testified, "He told me all things whatever I did."

40 When, therefore, the Samaritans came to him, they besought him that he would abide, with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own words; 42 and said to the woman, "We no longer believe because of thy report for we ourselves have heard him, and know that this is indeed [the Christ,] the Saviour of the world."

43 NOW, after the two days, he departed thence, [and went] into Galilee. 44 For Jesus himself declared that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. 45 So when he had come into Galilee, the Galileans received

him, having seen all the things which he did at Jerusalem during the festival: for they, also, went up to the festival.

46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was one of the king's household, whose son was sick, at Capernaum. 47 This man having heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, went to him, and besought him, that he would come down and cure his son: for he was at the point of death.

48 Then Jesus said to him, "Unless ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe." 49 He of the king's household said to him, "Sir, come down, before my child die." 50 Jesus said to him, "Go thy way, thy son liveth." [And] the man believed the words which Jesus had spoken to him, and departed. 51 And now as he was going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, “Thy son liveth."

52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said to him, "Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him." 53 So the father knew that it was at the very hour, in which Jesus had said to him, "Thy son liveth." And he, and his whole family, believed. 54 This second miracle Jesus did, when he had come out of Judea into Galilee.

CH. V. 1 AFTER these things there was a festival of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is at Jerusa;

14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, " Behold, thou art cured:

lem, by the sheep-gate, a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a [great] sin no more, lest some worse number of infirm persons; of thing befal thee." 15 The man blind, lame, and withered, [look-departed, and told the Jews

ing for the moving of the water.] 4 [[For at a certain season, an angel went down into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever, therefore, went in first, after the troubling of the water, was made well, whatever disease he had.]]

5 And a certain man was there, who had been in an infirmity thirty-eight years. 6 Jesus seeing him lying, and knowing that he had now been diseased a long time, said to him, "Dost thou desire to be healed?" 7 The infirm man answered him, "Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another goeth down before me." 8 Jesus said to him, "Arise, take up thy couch, and walk." 9 And immediately, the man was healed, and took up his couch, and walked. Now on that day was the sabbath.

10 The Jews, therefore, said to him who was cured, "It is the sabbath it is not lawful for thee to take up thy couch." 11 He answered them, "He who healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy couch, and walk.' ."" 12 [Then] they asked him, "What man is that who said to thee, Take up thy couch, and walk ?" 13 But he that was cured knew not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

that it was Jesus who had cured him. 16 And for this, the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

17 But Jesus said to them, "My Father continually worketh; and I also work." 18 Wherefore, for this, the Jews sought the more to kill him; because he had not only broken the sabbath, but said also, that God was his father, making himself like God. 19 Jesus, therefore, spake and said to them, "Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do for what things the Father doth, these the Son also doth in like manner.

20" For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things which he himself doth and he will show him greater works than these, so that ye will wonder. 21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and giveth them life; so the Son likewise giveth life to whom he will. 22 For neither doth the Father judge any one: but hath committed all judgment to the Son; 23 that all may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father who sent him.

24 "Verily, verily, I say to you, He that hearkeneth to my words, and believeth in him

who sent me, hath aionian life, and shall not come into condemnation; but passeth from death to life.

25" Verily, verily, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son, also, to have life in himself: 27 and he hath given him authority to exercise judgment also, because he is the Son of

man.

28" Wonder not at this: for the hour is coming in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; 29 they that have done good to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

30 "Of myself, I can do nothing as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him who sent me.

31"If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. 32 There is another who beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. 33 Ye sent to John, and he bare witness to the truth. 34 Yet I receive not witness from man: but I these things, that ye may be saved. 35 He was that burning and shining lamp: but ye chose to rejoice for a short time only in his light.

given me to perform, these works which I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. 37 And the father himself, who sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither listened to his voice at any time, nor seen his form; 38 nor have ye his word abiding in you; because ye believe not in him whom he hath sent. 39 Ye search the scriptures, because in them ye think ye have aionian life: and, though they testify of me, 40 yet ye are not willing to come to me, that ye may have life.

41 "I receive not honour from men: but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. 42 I am come in my Father's name, and yet ye receive me not: 43 if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44 How can ye believe, who receive honour from one another, while ye seek not the honour which cometh from God only?

45" Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust, 46 For if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47 But if ye believe not his writings, how will ye believe my words ?"

CH.VI. 1 AFTER these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw the 36 "But I have greater wit-miracles which he had done on ness than that of John: for the those who were diseased. works which the Father hath And Jesus went up a mountain,

4 Now the passover (a festival of the Jews) was nigh. 5 When Jesus, therefore, lifted up his eyes, and saw that a great multitude was coming to him, he said to Philip, "Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?" 6 (Now he said this to try him: for he himself knew what he was about to perform.) 7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii would not purchase bread sufficient for them, so that every one of them may take a little."

"This is in truth

that prophet who was to come into the world." 15 Jesus, therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him a king, [again] withdrew himself, alone, to a mountain.

16 AND in the evening, his disciples went down to the sea; 17 and having embarked, were passing by sea, to Capernaum. And it was now dark; and Jesus had not come to them. 18 And the sea arose, because of a great wind which blew. 19 So 8 One of his disciples, An- having rowed about twenty-five drew, Simon Peter's brother, or thirty furlongs, they saw Jesaid to him, 9 "There is a lad sus walking on the sea, and here, who hath five barley-drawing near the vessel: and loaves, and two small fishes: they were afraid. 20 But he said but what are they among so to them, "It is I: be not many?" 10 [And] Jesus said, afraid." 21 Then they were "Make the men place them-glad to receive him into the selves on the ground." (Now vessel; and immediately the there was much grass in the vessel was at the land whither place.) [So] the men placed they were going. themselves on the ground, in number about five thousand.

11 And Jesus took the loaves; and, having given thanks, he distributed [to the disciples, and the disciples] to those on the ground and in like manner of the fishes, as much as they desired. 12 And when they were filled, he said to his disciples, "Gather up the fragments which remain, that nothing be lost." 13 They therefore gathered them, and filled twelve panniers with the fragments of the five barley-loaves, which remained to those that had eaten.

14 Then those men, having seen the miracle which Jesus

22 THE day following, the multitude, who had been by the sea-side, having seen that no other boat was there, save that one, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the vessel, but that his disciples had departed alone; 23 (however, there came other boats from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread, [after the Lord had given thanks;]) 24 when the multitude therefore, saw, that neither Jesus was there, nor his disciples, they took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
