Words of two or more syllables, ending in ee and ose usually have the accent on the last syllable.*

* Those ending in ose, of three syllables, however, are now by the best and most recent authorities accented on the first syllable; the last syllable being still distinguished by a sort of secondary accent.

Words ending in ic and ics usually have the accent on the last syllable but one.*

Words ending in sion and tion have the accent on the

Words with the endings, cate, date, gate, fy, tude, and ty, preceded by a vowel, usually have the accent on the last syllable but two.

Words of more than two syllables, ending ia, iac, ial, ian, eous, and ious, have the accent on the syllable immediately before these terminations.

Words ending in eal, ean, and eum are accented, some of them on the penult, or the last syllable but one, and some on the antepenult, or last syllable but two.
