the ruins thereof, and I will set it up that the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord who doth all these things.-Acts xv. 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.

OBADIAH.-B. C. 587.

Ezekiel and Jeremiah.

Q. Is there any prophecy of Obadiah which points to the deliverance to be wrought by the Messiah ?-v. 17.

A. Upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness.-v. 19. And Saviours shall come up on Mount Zion, to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lord's.

Q. Can you bring forward any confirmation or proof of this prophecy from the New Testament?

A. St. Paul says, There shall come forth out of Zion the Deliverer.-Rom. xi. 26. And our Saviour says, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name, among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.-Luke xxiv. 46, 47. The Angel said unto Mary, The Lord God shall give unto Him (Jesus) the throne of His father David: and He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of His kingdom there shall be no end.-Luke i. 30, 32, 33. In the Revelations it is written, "The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever."-Rev. xi. 15.

A. Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights?-v. 17.

Q. Where is this circumstance alluded to in the New Testament, and was it a type of any circumstance relative to our Saviour?

A. Our blessed Lord says, "As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."-Matt, xii. 40.

CHAPTER II.

Q. Is there any other passage in this Prophet which is cited and applied in the New Testament? A. Jonah went unto Nineveh, and he cried and said, yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown. So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. And the king proclaimed, Yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.-v. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Q. Where do you find this confirmed in the New Testament?

A. Our Saviour says, The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonas, and behold, a greater than Jonas is here.-Matt. xii. 41.

MICAH.-B. C. 750.

In the reign of Jotham, &c.

CHAPTER III,

Is there any remarkable prophecy in this chapter which is repeated in the New Testament, relative to the destruction of Jerusalem?

A. Therefore shall Zion, for your sake, be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.-v. 12.

Q. Where is this prediction repeated in the New Testament, and by whom?

A. His Disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? Verily, I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.Matt. xxiv. 1, 2.

Q. Where can you show the fulfilment of this prediction in the New Testament?

A. Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa. Herod, when he had gathered all the Chief Priests and Scribes of the people together, demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, in Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet; And thou, Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor that shall rule my people Israel.-Matt. ii. 1, 4, 5, 6.

CHAPTER VII.

Q. Is there any passage in this chapter which has been cited by our Saviour?

A. The son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.—v. 6.

Q. Where is this applied by our Saviour?

A. I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.-Matt. x. 35, 36.

Q. Does this chapter contain any express promise that God would fulfil His promise to Abraham of the Messiah?

A. Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and

the mercy to Abraham, which Thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old. v. 20.
