Q. Is this prophecy repeated in the New Testament?

A. Jesus saith, Believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet in Jerusalem, worship the Father. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. John iv. 21, 23.-Salvation is of the Jews. v. 20.— The smoke of the incense which came with the prayers of the Saints, ascended up before God.Rev. viii. 4. Let my prayers be set forth before Thee as incense. xiv. 1, 2.

CHAPTER III.

Q. What prophecy does this chapter present of the coming of Christ, and of His Messenger?

A. Behold, I will send my Messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the Covenant, whom ye delight in behold, He shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.-v. 1.

Q. Where do you find the accomplishment of this prophecy, and who is the Messenger here spoken of?

A. Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, This is He of whom it is written, Behold I send my messenger before Thy face, which shall prepare Thy way before Thee. Verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist.-Matt. xi. 7, 10, 11.

Q. Where is the prophecy fulfilled that "The Lord should suddenly come to His temple?"

A. Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves; And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves. Matt. xxi. 12, 13.

Q. Does this chapter contain any prophecy relative to the coming of our Saviour to judge the world?

A. But who may abide the day of His coming? who shall stand when he appeareth? for He is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap, and He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.-v. 2, 3. Q. Can you prove from the New Testament that this is spoken prophetically of our Saviour?

A. John the Baptist said, He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner but He will burn' up the chaff with unquenchable fire.-Matt. iii. 11, 12. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise, and honour, and glory, at the appearing of Jesus Christ.-1 Pet. i. 7.-St. John, in the Revelations, says, The Kings of the earth, and the great men said to the mountains and rocks, fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?-Rev. vi. 15, 16, 17.-The Father judgeth no man; but hath committed all judgment unto the Son, that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.-John v. 22, 23.

CHAPTER IV.

Q. Does this chapter contain any allusion to the day of Judgment?

A. Behold, the day cometh that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of Hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.-v. 1.

Q. Where is the fulfilment of this prophecy alluded to in the New Testament?

A. John the Baptist says, He that cometh after me is mightier than I: He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.-Matt. iii. 11, 12. St. Paul says, Other foundation can no man lay, than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, hay, stubble, every man's work shall be made manifest. For the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work, of what sort it is.1 Cor. iii. 11, 12, 13.

Q. Is there any prophetic allusion here to the light of the Gospel which Christ should bring into the world?

A. Unto you that fear my name shall the Son of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings.

2.

Q. Can you point out the accomplishment, of this in the New Testament?

A. Zacharias prophesied, saying, Thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, to prepare His ways; to give knowledge of salvation unto His people, by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that

sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace Lake in 67, 96, 97, 98, 997 St. Paul says, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light-Eph v. 14. I, Jesus, am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star-Rev. xxii. 16.

.

Q. With what celebrated prophecy does Malachi seal up the vision and prophecy till all should be accomplished by the appearance of our Saviour upon earth?

A. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.-v. 5, 6.

Q. To whom does this prophecy allude, and where is its accomplishment?

A. The angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And many cf the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. Luke i. 13, 16, 17. Watch, therefore; be ye also ready for in such an hour as you think not, the Son of Man cometh. Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when He cometh, shall find so doing. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming, and shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken: the Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not

for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of; and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.-Matt. xxiv. 42, 44, 46, 48, 49, 50, 51. Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Amen.
