CARTWRIGHT, Thomas. Confutation of the Rhemish Translation Glosses and Annotations of the New Testament. Lond. 1618. folio. This confutation of the English Roman Catholic version, displays the writer's extensive acquaintance with the Scriptures, and the power of his controversial talents. Bp. of Ely, 498, 7s. 6d. Cartwright, says Mr. Park, was the leader of the Puritans, and greatly distinguished himself at the university of Cambridge as a laborious student, an acute disputant, and an adınired preacher.

An Admonition to Parliament. 1572. 8vo. This admonition, according to Mr. Strype, was printed and reprinted no less than four times, notwithstanding the diligence of the bishops to suppress it. The last edition, with additions (D 4, in eights) is copiously described by Herbert in his edition of Ames' Typog. Antiq. iii. 1631-2. Mr. Neal states, that this first admonition was presented to the house by the authors themselves, Mr. Field and Mr. Wilcox, for which they were committed to Newgate, October 2. A second Admonition to the Parliament. 1572. 8vo. 64 pp. besides preface. This second Admonition was written by Cartwright. Soon after the publication of the Admonitions, a pamphlet of 12 leaves, appeared, commencing with a preface superscribed, Grace and peace from God' followed by two epistolary exhortations; one, 'An Exhortation to the Byshops to deale Brotherly with theyr Brethren.' The other, 'An Exhortation to the bishops and their clergie to answer a little booke'

&c.

Certaine Articles, collected and taken (as it is thought) by the Byshops out of a little Boke entituled an Admonition to the Parliament, wyth an Answere to the same (1572). 8vo. B, in fours, half sheets. Said to have been printed at Wandsworth, near London.
