HYMN 15.

"Hosannah to the Son of David." MATT. xxi. 9.

1. Hosannah to the living Lord,

Hosannah to th' incarnate Word,

Hosannah in the earth be said,

And in the heaven which He hath made.
Hosannah, Lord, thine angels cry,

Hosannah, Lord, thy saints reply ;
Above, beneath us, and around,
The dead and living swell the sound,

Hosannah!

2. Oh! Saviour, with redeeming care,
Be with us in thine house of prayer;
Assembled in thy sacred name,
Where two or three thy promise claim.
But chiefest in each anxious breast
For ever bid thy Spirit rest,

And purify each soul to be

A temple pure and worthy Thee!

3. So in the last and dreadful day,

Hosannah!

When heaven and earth have pass'd away,

Thy flock redeem'd, and free from sin,

Shall once again their song begin :

Hosannah to the living Lord,
Hosannah to th' incarnate Word,

Hosannah in the earth be said,

And in the heaven which He hath made,

Hosannah!

HYMN 16.

"The Lord God is a sun and shield." Ps. lxxxiv. 11.

1. How are thy servants blest, O Lord,
How sure is their defence!
Eternal wisdom is their guide,
Their help Omnipotence !

2. When by the dreadful tempest borne, High on the broken wave,

They know Thou art not slow to hear,
Nor impotent to save.

3. The storm is laid, the winds retire,
Obedient to thy will;

The sea that roars at thy command,
At thy command is still.

4. Beset with dangers, fears, and death,
Thy goodness we adore,

We praise Thee for thy mercies past,
And humbly hope for more.

HYMN 17.

MISSIONARY.

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings." Isa. lii. 7.

1. How beauteous are their feet
Who stand on Zion's hill,

Who bring salvation on their tongues,
And words of peace reveal!

2. How happy are our ears,

That hear the joyful sound,

Which kings and prophets waited for,
And sought, but never found!

3. How blessed are our eyes,

That see this heavenly light!
Prophets and kings desir'd it long,
But died without the sight.

4. O Lord, make bare thine arm,
Through all the earth abroad;

Let ev'ry nation gladly own,

Their Saviour and their God!

HYMN 18.

EASTER.

"The Lord is risen indeed." LUKE xxiv. 34.

1. JESUS Christ is risen to day,

Hallelujah,

Our triumphant holy day,

Hallelujah,

Who so lately on the cross,

Hallelujah,

Suffer'd to redeem our loss,

Hallelujah.

2. Hymns of praises let us sing,

Hallelujah,

Unto Christ our heavenly King,

Hallelujah,

Who endur'd the cross and grave,

Hallelujah,

Sinners to redeem and save,

Hallelujah.

3. But the pains which He endur'd,

Hallelujah,

Our salvation have procur'd,

Hallelujah,

Now He reigns above the sky,

Hallelujah,

Where the angels ever cry,

Hallelujah, Amen.

HYMN 19,

ADVENT.

"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him." REV. i. 7.

1. Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Jesus, once for sinners slain !
Thousand, thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumph of his train:
Hallelujah!

Jesus comes, and comes to reign.

2. Every eye shall now behold Him,
Rob'd in dreadful majesty !

Those who set at nought and sold Him,
Pierc'd and nail'd Him to the tree,

Deeply wailing,

Shall the true Messiah see!

3. Yea, amen, let all adore Thee, High on thine eternal throne!

Saviour, take the power and glory,

Claim the kingdom for thine own!
Oh! come quickly!

Hallelujah, come, Lord, come!

(Helmsley.)
