HYMN 25.

"Give diligence to make your calling and election sure.”

2 PET. i. 10.

1. O GOD, thy saving grace impart ;
And deeply on each sinful heart
Eternal things impress;

Give us to feel their solemn weight,
To tremble at our guilty state,
And wake to righteousness.

2. Be this our one great object here,
With godly jealousy and fear,
To make our calling sure,
Thine utmost counsel to fulfil,
To suffer all thy righteous will,
And to the end endure.

3. Then, gracious Lord, our souls receive,
Transported from this world to live
And reign with Thee above;
Where faith is lost in perfect sight,
And hope in full, supreme delight,
And everlasting love.

HYMN 26.

" Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." MATT. xviii. 20.

1. O KING of glory! come,
And with thy favour crown
This temple as thy home,

This people as thine own:

Beneath this roof vouchsafe to shew
How God can dwell with man below.

2. Now let thine ear attend

Our supplicating cries;

Now let our praise ascend,
Accepted to the skies:

Now let thy Gospel's joyful sound
Spread its reviving influence round.

3. Here let the listening throng
Receive thy truth and love;

Let them join the song

Of seraphim above;

And all who humbly seek thy face,
Rejoice in thine abounding grace.

HYMN 27.

"Thou art my portion, O Lord." Ps. cxix. 57.

1. O LORD, thy heavenly grace impart,
And fix my frail inconstant heart,
Henceforth my chief desire shall be,
To dedicate myself to Thee,

To Thee, my God, to Thee!

2. Whate'er pursuits my time employ,
One thought shall fill my soul with joy;
That silent, secret thought shall be,
That all my hopes are fix'd on Thee,
On Thee, my God, on Thee.

3. Renouncing ev'ry worldly thing,
Safe 'neath the covert of thy wing,
My sweetest thought henceforth shall be
That all I want I find in Thee,

In Thee, my God, in Thee!

HYMN 28.

"The entrance of thy words giveth light." Ps. cxix. 130.

1. O THOU, at whose almighty word

The glorious light from darkness sprung!
Thy quickening influence afford,

And clothe with power the preacher's tongue.

2. 'Tis thine to teach him how to speak;
'Tis thine to give the hearing ear;
"Tis thine the stubborn heart to break,
And make the careless sinner fear.

3. 'Tis also thine, Almighty Lord,
To cheer the poor desponding heart;
To speak the soul reviving word,
And bid the mourner's fears depart.

4. Thus would we at thy feet be found,
And thus on Thee alone depend,
To make the Gospel's joyful sound
Effectual to the promised end.

HYMN 29.

"Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory." Ps. lxxiii. 24.

1. O THOU! to whose all searching sight The darkness shineth as the light!

Try us, and

prove each treacherous heart, And bid the power of sin depart.

2. As through this vale of tears we stray,
Be Thou our light, be Thou our stay:
Mark out the pilgrim's heavenly road,
That leads unto the mount of God.

3. If storms and tempests cloud our way,
Our strength proportion to our day;
Nor storms nor tempests need we fear,
If God, our sun and shield, be near.

4. Guide and uphold us with thy hand,
Till we arrive at Canaan's land;

The land where sin and death shall cease,
The land of righteousness and peace.

(Islington.)
