2 Thy walls are strength-and at thy gates A guard of heavenly warriors waits; Nor shall thy deep foundation move, Fixed on his counsels and his love. 3 Thy foes in vain designs engage, Against thy throne in vain they rage, Like rising waves with angry roar, > That break and die upon the shore. f" 4 Then let our souls in Zion dwell,

Nor fear the wrath of earth and hell;
His arms embrace this happy ground,
Like brazen bulwarks built around.
5 God is our shield-and God our sun;
Swift as the fleeting moments run,
On us he sheds new beams of grace,
And we reflect his brightest praise.

The Promise to Believers and their Children ་་ HOW large the promise! how divine! To Abraham and his seed!"I'll be a God to thee and thine, Supplying all their need."

2 The words of his extensive love
From age to age endure;

The angel of the covenant proves,
And seals the blessings sure.

3 Jesus the ancient faith confirms
To our great father given;

He takes young children in his arms,
And calls them heirs of heaven.

4 Our God!-how faithful are his ways!
His love endures the same;

Nor from the promise of his grace
Blots out our children's name.

S. M. Pentonville. Mornington,

LORD, what our ears have heard,
Our eyes delighted trace;
Thy love in long succession shown
To Zion's chosen race.

2 Our children thou dost claim,
And mark them out for thine:
Ten thousand blessings to thy name,
For goodness so divine.

3 Thee let the fathers own,

Thee let the sons adore;

Joined to the Lord in solemn vows,
To be forgot no more.

4 How great thy mercies, Lord!
How plenteous is thy grace!
Which, in the promise of thy love,
Includes our rising race.

5 Our offspring, still thy care,
Shall own their fathers' God;
To latest times thy blessings share,
And sound thy praise abroad.

Embracing the Promise.

THUS saith the mercy of the Lord,
"I'll be a God to thee;

I'll bless thy numerous race, and they
Shall be a seed for me."

2 With humble faith, eternal King,
Thy promise we embrace:

To thee our infant offspring bring,
And supplicate thy grace.

Christ blessing Children.

THE Saviour kindly calls

Our children to his breast;

He folds them in his gracious arms,
Himself declares them blest.

2 "Let them approach," he cries,
"Nor scorn their humble claim;
The heirs of heaven are such as these-
For such as these I came."

3 With joy we bring them, Lord,
Devoting them to thee,

Imploring, that, as we are thine,
Thine may our offspring be.

BEHOLD what condescending love
Jesus on earth displays!-

To babes and sucklings he extends
The riches of his grace!

2 He still the ancient promise keeps,
To our forefathers given;

Young children in his arms he takes,
And calls them heirs of heaven.

3 Forbid them not, whom Jesus calls,
Nor dare the claim resist,

Since his own lips to us declare

Of such will heaven consist.

4 With flowing tears, and thankful hearts,
We give them up to thee;

Receive them, Lord, into thine arms;
Thine may they ever be.

Dedication of Children to God.

GREAT God, now condescend
To bless our rising race;

Soon may their willing spirits bend
To thy victorious grace.

2 Oh what a vast delight,
Their happiness to see!

Our warmest wishes all unite
To lead their souls to thee.

3 Now bless, thou God of love,
This holy rite divine;

Send thy good Spirit from above,
And make our children thine.

Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

Medway.

COME, Holy Ghost-come from on high;
Baptizer of our spirits thou!

The sacramental seal apply,

And witness with the water now.
2 Exert thy gracious power divine,
And sprinkle thou th' atoning blood;
May Father, Son, and Spirit, join
To seal this child a child of God.

L. M. Duke Street. Windham,

The Lord's Supper instituted.

'TWAS on that dark, that doleful night,
When powers of earth and hell arose
Against the Son of God's delight,

And friends betrayed him to his foes

2 Before the mournful scene began,

He took the bread, and blest and brake: What love through all his actions ran! What wondrous words of grace he spake !3 "This is my body, broke for sin: Receive and eat the living food "Then took the cup and blessed the wine"Tis the new covenant in my blood." 4 "Do this," he cried, "till time shall end, In memory of your dying friend; Meet at my table, and record

The love of your departed Lord."

5 Jesus, thy feast we celebrate,

We show thy death, we sing thy name
Till thou return, and we shall eat

Christ's Invitation to the Table.

JESUS invites his saints

To meet around his board ;

Here pardoned rebels sit, and hold
Communion with their Lord.

2 For food he gives his flesh;
He bids us drink his blood;
Amazing favor-matchless grace
Of our descending God!

3 Let all our powers be joined
His glorious name to raise :
Let joy and love fill every mind,
And every voice be praise.

Guests drawn in by Divine Love.

HOW sweet and awful is the place,
With Christ within the doors,

While everlasting love displays

The choicest of her stores!

Stamford.

2 While all our hearts, and all our songs
Join to admire the feast,

Each of us cries with thankful tongue,
'Lord, why was I a guest?

3 Why was I made to hear thy voice,
And enter while there's room?

When thousands make a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come!'

4 'Twas the same love that spread the feast
That gently drew us in;

Else we had still refused to taste,
And perished in our sin.

5 Pity the nations, O our God!
Constrain the earth to come;
Send thy victorious word abroad,
And bring the strangers home.
6 We long to see thy churches full,
That all the chosen race

May with one voice, and heart, and soul,
Sing thy redeeming grace.

LORD, at thy table we behold
The wonders of thy grace;
But most of all admire, that we
Should find a welcome place-

2 We, who are all defiled with sin,
And rebels to cur God!

We, who have crucified thy Son,
And trampled on his blood!

Medfield.

3 What strange, surprising grace is this,
That we, so lost, have room!

Jesus our weary souls invites,

And freely bids us come.

4 Ye saints below, and hosts of heaven!
Join all your sacred powers:

No theme is like redeeming love!

No Saviour is like ours!

432 Penitent View of the Saviour's Sufferings.

LORD, when my thoughts delighted rove
Amid the wonders of thy love,
Sweet hope revives my drooping heart,
And bids intruding fears depart.
2 Repentant sorrow fills my heart,
But mingling joy allays the smart;
Oh! may my future life declare
The sorrow and the joy sincere.
3 Be all my heart, and all my days
Devoted to my Saviour's praise;
