THE

CATHOLIC CHURCH:

AN EPITOME

OF

SACRED HISTORY.

BY MRS MORELL

Third Edition.

EDINBURGH:

WILLIAM P. NIMMO, 2 ST DAVID STREET.
LONDON: SIMPKIN, MARSHALL, & CO.

M.DCCC.LX.

110. d. 229.

GREENHILL, 22d June 1860.

DEAR MRS MORELL,

I have perused your little book with great pleasure, and I shall warmly recommend its adoption within the Catholic Schools of this vicariate. As a short, lucid, and judiciously-classed Text-book of Church History, it very opportunely supplies one of the many deficiencies yet felt in our school library; while the foot-notes with which you have enriched its every page, stamp it at once an elementary work in perfect harmony with the most approved system of teaching of the present day. The few slightly inaccurate expressions of the original French can easily be rectified in the next edition, which I feel satisfied will soon be called for; and which, I trust, may and will prove but the forerunner of many others.

Allow me, moreover, to say, that to me not the least interesting feature in your little volume, is the good example it conveys to many of our Catholic ladies of talent and education as to the useful employment of their leisure hours. To the credit of the Catholic ladies of England, this is not the first good example of the kind that has been given of late years; let us hope that it will not be the last.

I need scarcely add that, should you think fit to do so, you are at perfect liberty to make any public use you please of this letter.

Believe me,

Yours truly in Christ,

JAS. GILLIS,

Bp. Vic. Ap. of the Eastern District in Scotland.

To Mrs MORELL,

Greenhill Gardens, Edinburgh.
