138. Examples of God's People, Jeeking him. 2 Chron. xi. 16. Out of all the Tribes of Ifrael, such as fet their Hearts to seek the Lord God of Ifrael, came to Jerufalem to facrifice unto the Lord God of their Fathers, and would not worship Calves fet up by Jeroboam.

140. The Wicked feek not God aright. 2 Chron. xii. 14. Rehoboam prepared not his Heart to feek the Lord.

Ifa. lviii. 2. They feek me daily, and delight to know my Ways, as a Nation that did Righteoufnefs, and forfook not the Ordinances of their God; they feek of me, the Ordinances of Juftice, they take delight in approaching unto God.

Drawing near to God.

141. Drawing near to God. Lev. x. 3. The Lord fpake faying,, will be fanctified in all them that come nigh me, and before all the People will I be glorified.

1 Sam. xiv. 36. The Priest said, let us draw near to God. Pf. lxv. 4. Blessed is the Man whom thou caufeft to approach

xxiv. 20. Because ye have forfaken the Lord, he hath forfaken you. Ezra viii. 2. God's Power and Wrath is against all that forfake him.

Ifa. i. 4. They have forfaken the Lord, they have provoked the holy One of Ifrael to Anger.

Ver. 28. They that forfake the Lord fhall be confumed.

Ver. 19. Thine own Wickedness fhall correct thee, and thy Backflidings fhall reprove thee, know therefore, and fee that it is an evil Thing and bitter, that thou haft forfaken the Lord thy God.

Departing from God.

146. Departing from God. Jer. xvii. 5. Curfed be the Man that trusteth in Man, and maketh Flesh his Arm, and whofe Heart departeth from the Lord, Ver. 13. See Ezek. 18. 24.—33. 12. See this Sin confeffed. Dan. 9. 5. 11. Ifa. 59. 12, 13.

Not departing from God. Inftances. 2 Sam. 22. 22. I have kept the Ways of the Lord and have not wickedly departed from my God.

Backfliding.

147. Backfliding from God. Prov. xiv. 14. The Backflider in Heart fhall be filled with his own Ways.

Ifa. i. 4. They are gone away backward, Jer. 7. 24.

Jer. ii. 19. Thy Backflidings shall reprove thee.

v. 6. Their Tranfgreffions are many, their Backflidings are increased. Ver. 7. How fhall I pardon thee, Ch. 8. 5. 13.-14. 2. to 7. xv. 6. Thou haft forfaken me, and art gone away backward, therefore will I deftroy thee.

xlix. 4: O Backfliding Daughter, I will bring a Fear upon thee. Hof. iv. 16. Ifrael flideth back, as a backfliding Heifer.

Going aftray.

148. The Wicked go afide, go aftray, err, wander, turn away from God. Pf. xiv. 3. They are all gone afide, &c.

Iviii. 3. The Wicked are eftranged from the very Womb, they go afray as foon as born.

Ixxviii. 57. They are turned aside like a deceitful Bow, Ver. 62. xcv. 10. It is a People that do err in Heart.

Prov. v. 23. The Wicked fhall die without Inftruction, and in the Greatnefs of his Folly he fhall

go aftray.

xiv. 22. Do they not err that devife Evil, but Mercy and Truth fhall be to them that devife Good.

Ifa. xliv. 20. A deceived Heart hath turned him afide, he cannot deliver his Soul, nor fay, is there not a Lie in my right Hand?
