FRIDAY MORNING.

CONFESSION.

Almighty and everliving God, who hast mercifully brought us to the beginning of this day, we sinners do beseech thee to hear our earnest petitions for thy forgiveness and favour.

We humbly bow down in thy presence, and beseech thee to hear us, good Lord. Gracious God, guilty and weak and helpless as we are, it is our comfort, yea, our unspeakable joy, that with thee there is plenteous redemption. May our view of the cross of Christ lead us to deep repentance and faith unfeigned, and fill our souls with hope and consolation, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

O thou just and holy Lord God, we acknowledge that we are not worthy to lift up our hands unto thee: we have sinned and done amiss; our transgressions are more in number than the hairs of our head; they are a heavy burden upon our souls. We have sinned against light and knowledge, against mercies and warnings, against providences and opportunities of good. We desire not to justify ourselves, but to confess before thee that we are utterly unclean.

Without thee, blessed Jesus, we can do nothing; make us to feel our own sin and infirmity, and the comfort of thy grace. Cast us not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from us; but remember us with the favour thou bearest unto thy people, and visit us with thy salvation.

There is a fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness; O Lord, thy word hath spoken it; let us wash and be clean. Hide thy face from our sins, and blot out all our iniquities.

Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we who for our evil deeds do worthily deserve to be punished, by the comfort of thy grace may be mercifully relieved, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

SUPPLICATION.

Almighty and eternal God, who hast renewed thy mercies toward us together with this morning light, Thou art the God of our life and the refuge of our souls. Day by day will we make our prayer unto thee. Look down upon us, O Lord, from thy holy temple; from thy throne in the heaven of heavens, incline thine ear and hear us, for Jesus Christ's sake.

Great Jehovah, keep us this day with thy mighty power. May we be in thy fear all the day long! Make us meek and lowly in heart: deliver us from all sin and wickedness; support us in all dangers, and carry us safely through all temptations, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

May we now go forth to the discharge of our several duties, with thy love shed abroad in our hearts. Teach us faithfully to improve our various talents and opportunities. Let us be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might; that we may stand in the evil hour of temptation; and, having done all, may stand.

Bless us especially, O Lord of mercy, in that state of life, in which thy good providence hath placed us. Make us thoroughly satisfied with it, as appointed by thee. Give us faith to place all our dependence upon thee, O heavenly Father: prepare us for the various changes of this mortal life; and lead us, in every visitation, to see thy hand, and to submit cheerfully and thankfully to thy will.

O thou from whom all good things do come, give us that true and lively faith, which may make us to count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord. Deeply sensible of his amazing love in dying for the guilty, may we love him in sincerity, and be enabled with truth

I

to say, as the penitent Apostle said, "Lord, thou knowest all things, thou knowest that I love thee." May we be entirely conformed to thy divine image of purity and truth. O Lord, thou alone canst give us ability for these things; thou knowest whereof we are made; thou rememberest that we are but dust let thy strength be made perfect in our weakness; that we may glorify thy holy name in all our life and conversation.

O Holy Spirit, thou searcher and sanctifier of the heart of man, give us the grace to see, give us the desire and power to correct, every sinful habit, every thing which offendeth thee. Mortify and kill all vices in us; and grant that we may walk in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless; so that our light may shine before men; and by our fruits it may be known, whose we are and whom we are serving.

Almighty and immortal God, the aid of all that need, the helper of all that flee to thee for succour, the life of them that believe, and the resurrection of the dead, give ear to us who call upon thee: Receive us, O Lord, as thou had promised by thy well-beloved Son, saying, Ask, and ye shall have; seek, and shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto so give now unto us that ask; let us that seek find; open the gate unto us that knock; and make us partakers of thy mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

INTERCESSION.

But we pray not for ourselves alone. O gracious God, on the whole world. compassion on every side.

Have pity,

Extend thy

Bring nigh unto thee, by the blood of the cross, those who are afar off. Regard all sorts and conditions of men; and suit thy mercies to the wants of all.

Preserve those who are rich in this world's goods, that they trust not in uncertain riches, but in thee the living God; and grant that the poor in this world may be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which thou hast promised to them that love thee.

O God, bless our household and all for whom we are especially bound to pray. Let us not love the world, neither the things that are in the world; let us put away the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life; that the love of the Father may dwell in our hearts, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O save and defend our Sovereign Lord the King, and all that are in authority under him; endue them plenteously with heavenly gifts; that peace and happiness, truth and justice, religion and piety, may be established among us for all generations.
