Morning.

Act of Adoration.

LORD God Almighty, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, O holy, blessed, and glorious Trinity, Who hast made all things, visible and invisible, the earth, and the sun, and the stars, and the unseen beings in the spiritual world; Who dost maintain and rule all the universe by Thy power, I bow down myself before Thee, the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. I humbly join myself in adoring Thee with the holy angels, with the Church at rest, with the Church yet militant here in earth.

Lord, have mercy upon me.
Christ, have mercy upon me.
Lord, have mercy upon me.
I BELIEVE, etc.

O Lord God, I confess my utter unworthiness to approach Thee. I come in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord; I plead the ransom He paid for me by His Death; I look up in the hope that I may be accepted as partaker of His Life. I cast myself upon the power of His intercession. I pray as He hath taught us. OUR FATHER, etc.

No. I.

LORD GOD most holy, I beseech Thee to

since I last knelt before Thee. For the Lord Jesu's sake, pardon all that I have thought or done unworthy of my regenerate life, unworthy of my special calling, unworthy of His calmness, His purity, His gentleness. Cleanse me, O Lord, by Thy Holy Spirit; cleanse me thoroughly and for ever. I renounce this day the world, the flesh, and the devil. I throw myself upon Thee to help me. I desire to give myself wholly unto Thee, to do all to Thy glory.

I thank Thee, O God, with all my heart, for sustaining my life during the night, for refreshing sleep, for lengthened time to repent, and renewed strength to serve Thee here. I praise and bless Thee for continuing to me my reason, my senses, and especially my eyesight; for preserving me from fire, from pain, from distressing thoughts, from evil angels, and from wicked men. I glorify Thee for Thy constant and most kindly care so unremittingly bestowed on me, unworthy as I am, and on those who are dear to me; for the opportunities of serving Thee which Thou hast deigned to give me; for the indulgences which Thou hast, in Thy Fatherly kindness, lavished upon me, especially for the love of those who love me. And above all do I thankfully acknowledge how often and often Thou hast renewed to me Thy most precious gift of the Holy Spirit; and now I beseech Thee again, O Lord, to strengthen my miserable weakness against all sin during the coming day, and particularly against . . ., to which I am sadly disposed, and most easily tempted. I earnestly desire Thy help to beware

of occasions of such sins, to be watchful against the first signs of temptation, to shrink from all that is unbecoming my calling, to remember that I was baptized into the Death of Christ, to realize Thy holy Presence everywhere and at all times, and to abhor everything which is offensive in Thine eyes. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, my Saviour, my Master, Who didst give Thyself for our sins, that Thou mightest deliver us from this present evil world, I beseech Thee to fulfil Thy gracious purpose in me, that I may be wholly conformed unto Thee. Make me humble, diligent, steadfast, persevering. Give me zeal and discretion, selfdenial and cheerfulness, gentleness and earnestness. Help me to bear injuries patiently, to take contradiction meekly, and to forgive as I am forgiven. Keep me from being frivolous, vain, ill-tempered, or idle. Fill me with holy thoughts, that I may lift up my heart to Thee in the midst of business and recreation. all that I do let me manifest Thy life living in me, that I may set aside entirely my own satisfaction; and while acting with courtesy and consideration towards others, may never forget that I am Thy servant. Amen.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, I humbly commit unto Thee those I love, those for whom I am bound to pray, those with whom I have to do to-day. Bless my family (my colleagues, my servants, and dependents), and all my friends. Grant unto them whatever good I ask for myself, and supply whatever I forget, as Thou knowest to be expedient for them. Protect us, O Lord, from all evil and mischief. Into Thy hands I commend myself and them. Keep me in perfect peace, make me to depend entirely on Thee. If it seem good unto Thee to send

affliction of body or mind, or to try me with disappointment or failure, or if my way lead this day through the gate of death, I resign myself absolutely to Thy Fatherly and most loving Providence. I cling humbly to Thee, and to Thy love. Or if it please Thee, O Lord, to brighten this day with Thy favour, then let me offer my strength to Thee. Do Thou prosper my work, and bring me in peace to the evening. And be Thou always above me to sustain me, before me to guide me, round about me to protect me, within me to strengthen me, after me to forgive me. Now and always.

Amen.

I will go forth in the strength of the Lord God.

No. 2.

BLESSED art Thou, O Lord, our God, the

God of our fathers, Who turnest the shadow of death into the morning, and renewest the face of the earth; Who hast lightened mine eyes, that I slept not in death; Who hast delivered me from terrors of the night, from the pestilence that walketh in darkness; Who makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice. Blessed art Thou, for I have laid me down and slept, and have risen up again; it is Thou, Lord, Who makest me dwell in safety. I awoke and beheld, and my sleep was sweet unto me.

O Lord, blot out as a mist mine iniquities. Scatter my sins as a morning cloud. Grant that I may become a child of the light, and of the day, that I may walk soberly, chastely, and honestly, as in the day. Vouchsafe to keep me this day without sin; uphold me when I am falling, and lift me up when I am down; grant that I

may never harden my heart by provoking Thee, by tempting Thee; nor let me be deceived by any sin. Preserve this day from any evil of mine, and me from the evil of this day. Let not my days be consumed in vanity, nor my years in trouble. Let one day utter speech unto another; let this day add something in knowledge or in practice to yesterday.

Oh, let me hear Thy loving-kindness betimes in the morning, for in Thee is my trust; show Thou me the way that I should walk in, for I lift up my soul unto Thee.

Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies, for I flee unto Thee to hide me. Teach me to do the thing that pleaseth Thee, for Thou art my God. Let Thy loving Spirit lead me forth into the land of uprightness. Quicken me, O Lord, for Thy Name's sake; and for Thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.

Remove from my mind thoughts that are without understanding. Inspire good thoughts into me, even such as shall be well-pleasing unto Thee. Turn away mine eyes, lest they behold vanity. Hedge in mine ears, that they listen not to foolish discourses. Waken them to hear in the morning, and open them to the doctrine of Thy Word. Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips; let my speech be seasoned with salt, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Let nothing that I do be a grief or offence of heart to me. But let my doings be such for which Thou mayest remember me for good; and do Thou spare me according to the greatness of Thy mercy.

Into Thy hands I commend my spirit, soul, and body. Thou hast created, redeemed, regenerated them, O Lord, Thou God of Truth. And with myself I commend unto Thee all
