died for us, Jesus Christ our Lord; to Whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be the glory of this work, now and for ever. Amen.

On a Vacancy in a Parochial Cure.

A

LMIGHTY and everlasting God, Who dost govern all things in heaven and earth, mercifully hear the supplications of us Thy servants, and of Thy loving-kindness grant, we pray Thee, a priest to this parish, who by faithfulness in teaching and holiness of life may be well pleasing unto Thee, and who by watchfulness and zeal may promote Thy glory and the salvation of souls; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

On a Visit.

LORD, look down graciously upon this household. May Thy Presence abide in it, and protect it. May Thy holy Angels watch over it. May it be a house of love, and peace, and holiness. Bless all the members of this family, present and absent. Unite them in the bonds of brotherly love, and in the fellowship of the Church militant and at rest.

And especially I pray for the children, that they may grow up in Thy fear, and may give their hearts to Thee in the days of their youth; so that both young and old may be Thine, now and for ever; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In a Holiday.

LORD Jesus, my Master, Who takest kindly thought for my weakness, and for my need of intermission of labour, I thankfully

acknowledge Thy indulgent goodness in granting to me this time of rest. Keep me safe in its various temptations. Sanctify it wholly to Thy purposes. Direct me so to use it that I may be effectually refreshed both in body and mind, and that I may return to my work cheered and invigorated, full of gratitude to Thee, and of renewed zeal for Thy service. Grant me this for Thine own sake. Amen.

Before a Journey.

LORD God, Who art the same everywhere, and from Whom no distance can separate me; accompany me, I beseech Thee, on this journey. Protect me from all danger and harm, either to body or soul; and bring me safe to my journey's end, in Thy peace and favour; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

After a Journey.

LORD, I thank Thee for Thy loving care of me in this journey. Thou hast given Thou hast pre

Entercessions.

For the Church.

No. I.

GRACIOUS Father, I most humbly beseech

Thee for Thy holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth. Where it is corrupt, purge it; where it is in error, direct it; where it is superstitious, enlighten it; where anything is amiss, reform it; where it is right, strengthen and confirm it; where it is in want, furnish it; where it is divided and rent asunder, make up the breaches of it; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O

No. 2.

LORD Jesus Christ, make me to feel something of Thy exceeding love for Thy Church, and to pray earnestly that she may be prepared as a bride for Thy coming, all glorious, without spot, perfect in purity and beauty. Oh, let me not delay this her preparation, but grant, O Lord, that I and all her members may join heartily in glorifying Thy wonderful love, by striving to make her ready for the great day when Thou shalt return to take her to be one with Thee for ever. Amen.

For the English Church.

HEAR my prayer, O Lord, for this branch

of Thy Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Be with us according to Thy promise in all our troubles. Stablish us in sound and accurate doctrine. Give us courage to maintain it unflinchingly. Strengthen us to show forth the fruits thereof in ever-increasing holiness of life. Guide us in the externals of worship, to think first of Thy honour, to be in accordance as far as may be with the practice of Thy holy Church in times past, to be sensible in distinguishing things important from things trivial, and to be patient and discreet in reforming what is amiss. Make us eager to recognise a godly zeal in one another; defend us from the worldly, the fanciful, the erastian, and the schismatic; and make us to be an united Body in the knowledge and confession of the full truth of Thy holy Word and Sacraments; for the sake of our dear Lord and Head, Jesus Christ. Amen.

For a Sister Church.

ALMIGHTY God, King of kings, Who

behold all the

dwellers upon earth, I thank Thee for that Thou hast given to the Church of our country a Sister Church in the Church of . . . Let the dew of Thy blessing descend evermore on it, and make it rich in every fruit of the Spirit. Grant that between its members and ourselves the communion of Saints may be maintained for ever unbroken, to Thy glory, and to the edifying of the Body of Christ in love. Grant also that the

hearts of the fathers may be so turned to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, that peace and love may be multiplied among nations, and that the whole world may receive a blessing from on high; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the Clergy.

GRANT, I beseech Thee, O Lord, to Thy

Church the inestimable benefit of a pious, active, and learned clergy. Illuminate them with a true knowledge and understanding of Thy Word; advance them in all such studies as help to the same; make them ever diligent in prayers; and above all, adorn them with personal holiness and loving zeal for Thy work; that both by their life and doctrine they may faithfully serve in their holy office to Thy glory, and to the edification of Thy Church. Grant to our Bishops a double portion of Thy Holy Spirit, that they may be truly fathers of Thy flock. Bless all parish priests and Cathedral clergy. And more especially do I pray for that he may be a truly discreet and learned minister of Thy Word, and that whenever we cannot quiet our own consciences, and require further comfort or counsel, he may have the mind of Christ to advise and guide us according to Thy holy will; so that hereafter we may rejoice together in Thy heavenly kingdom over help given and received; through the power of Thy most Holy Spirit, Who with Thee and Thy blessed Son liveth and reigneth one God, for ever. Amen.
