the unsearchable riches of Christ, that the savour of Thy knowledge may be made manifest by them in every place, and that Thy Gospel may come unto the Gentiles, not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost. REMEMBER, Lord, the catechumens of Thy

people, who in various lands are under instruction preparatory to their baptism, and especially those in whom I am personally interested, viz. . . . Have mercy upon them, confirm them in the Faith, remove all remains of the worship of idols from their hearts, and plant therein Thy laws, Thy precepts, Thy fear, Thy truth, and Thy commandments. Give them a firm knowledge of the Word in which they are trained, and grant that in due time they may be worthy of the washing of regeneration for the remission of their sins. Grant them health and strength of body, due capacity of mind, and accomplishments of education. Give them the power and the will to serve Thee signally and faithfully. Protect them in all temptation. boys sensible, manly, honest, simple-minded, and tender-hearted; and the girls gentle, amiable, useful, and unselfish. Help me to bring them up with all possible care and discretion, as a diligent steward of Thy most precious treasures; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Thee that I was privileged to join in the LMIGHTY and everlasting God, I thank

charitable work of bringing to Thy holy Baptism my Godchildren, viz. (here mention them).

I pray Thee that they may have power and strength to triumph against the devil, the world, and the flesh. In due time give them the benefit of Confirmation, and bring them worthily to Thy holy Table, so that they, who were made partakers of the Resurrection of the Lord in their baptism, may daily advance in the gifts of

the Spirit, crucifying the old man, and following the example of Christ our Lord; and finally attain to the resurrection of the just; for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

For Candidates for Confirmation.

LORD God, Who through Thy Church dost invite these Thy servants to come to Thee in this holy ordinance, give them, I beseech Thee, strength to live as becomes Thy adopted children; and so help them by Thy Spirit to fight the good fight, that they may endure unto the end, and at last receive the crown of everlasting life. Assist them so to prepare for this ordinance that they may have a deep sense of their present weakness, and of their failure in doing their duty. Make them to feel bitterly their faults and shortcomings, and give them a godly repentance, and an earnest desire for Thy grace.

And grant, O Lord, that when they approach Thee to seek Thy strength, they may humbly, and thankfully, and cheerfully, make profession of their faith and duty, and then receive from Thee all the benefits of spiritual comfort and courage, and go forth strengthened to mortify all evil and corrupt affections, and daily to advance in all virtue and godliness of living; through Jesus Christ our Lord. LORD and Father of all, I pray Thee on behalf of my relations and friends, especially.... Make them to love Thee with all their heart and strength, that they may do all things as unto Thee, and daily amending

their lives, may grow in holiness, through the power of Thy most Holy Spirit. Give them a continual sense of Thy Presence. Make them diligent and useful in Thy service.
