I turn my eyes from all that may feed my selfesteem, from all earthly things that can reward me here. I shut my ears to the praise of men. I seek only the honour that comes from Thee. I dread robbing Thee of any of that which I now profess to give wholly to Thee, by selling any part of it for the honour of men. I give myself to Thee, O Father, by the power of the Holy Ghost. Oh, do Thou accept me; for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

O

Metrical Prayer.

FATHER, Who didst graciously
Thy Son, Thy best beloved, give

A ransom for our sins to be,

And food whereby our souls might live;

Grant me in mercy to prepare

For this blest feast, in holy dread;
That I, through faith, in Christ may share,
And heart and soul on Him be fed.

Purge Thou my conscience and my mind,
And wash me throughly from my sin,
That when He cometh, Christ may find
A vessel sweet and clean within.

Strengthen my faith, my hope enlarge,
And light the fires of perfect love;
Mine erring soul make Thine own charge;
Hallow my body from above.

Lift up my heart above the sky,

Where dwelleth He Who bought me dear.

With bread of heaven satisfy;

Give faith to love, and faith to fear.

F

Give faith, that for His Passion's sake
Against me Thou rememberest nought-
Faith, that I freely do partake

The life which by His Death He bought.

Faith, that my Lord and God will come
To dwell for ever in my breast,
His Holy Spirit lead me home
To endless joy and heavenly rest.

Then let me never more profane
The house where He vouchsafes to be,
Nor by unholy action stain

A vessel consecrate to Thee.

Introductory Collects.

No. I.

LORD God Almighty, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, I plead His invitation and command to come to this great Mystery. I humbly cast myself on the virtue of His Atonement. I dare appear before Thee only as ransomed by His Death and Passion. I acknowledge myself unworthy to bring an offering in memorial of Him; I acknowledge that I am utterly unworthy to represent Him; I acknowledge that I am unworthy to gather up the crumbs under Thy Table.

For His sake I pray Thee to overlook my insufficient preparation, to cleanse me from my manifold infirmities and stains, to supply my miserable insufficiency. For His sake I pray Thee to sanctify me by Thy Holy Spirit for this awful act of worship.

Give me, I beseech Thee, hearty repentance

of my sins, earnest desire of amendment, and full determination to serve Thee diligently and unreservedly. Give me a most thankful remembrance of His great Love in becoming man for our sakes, in dying for us. Give me true brotherly love for all my brethren; and so receive me in spite of my unworthiness, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

No. 2.

BLESSED Lord Jesus Christ, I desire to obey Thy dying command. I adore Thee most reverently, as invited into Thy real Presence in these Thy Mysteries.

Enlighten me, I beseech Thee, to discern herein Thy Body and my own unworthiness. Fill me with awe of Thy wonderful devotion to the Will of the Father, and of Thy wonderful Love in dying for our sakes.

I desire, O Lord, most humbly to offer myself, in union with Thy whole Church, to be a reasonable, holy, and lively sacrifice, the memorial of Thee offering Thyself to the Father.

I desire most humbly to taste of the heavenly joy over Thy Incarnation; to receive anew the mysterious and inestimable Gift of Thy Body and Blood into my spirit, soul, and body, that Thy life may be renewed in me, that Thou mayest wholly occupy me, and dwell in me henceforth in all Thy strength and holiness.

I desire also to be in closest living communion with Thy holy Church universal, both militant and at rest. Enable me to fulfil these my desires, O Lord, for Thy love. Amen.

No. 3.

LORD God, Almighty Father, we glorify Thee

for all the mighty works that Thou hast

done through Thy Wisdom, the true Light, Thy only-begotten Son, our Lord, and God, and Saviour, Jesus Christ. By Him, O Lord, we offer to Thee, and Him, and the Holy Ghost, this reasonable and bloodless thank-service, which all nations offer to Thee, O Lord, from sunrising to sunsetting, from north and south.

For great is Thy Name in all nations, and in every place incense and sacrifice is offered to Thy holy Name. Amen.

O

On behalf of Celebrant.

GOD, Who dost look upon our humble estate with pity and compassion, Who dost appoint men, lowly, and sinful, and undeserving, as we all confess ourselves to be, to stand before Thy holy glory, and to minister at Thy holy altar; do Thou strengthen Thy priest by Thy grace, rightly to perform this service, and especially that he may call down the power of the Holy Ghost upon this our sacrifice; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

On behalf of Fellow-Worshippers. EVERLASTING King, Creator of all the world, receive Thy Church coming to Thee through Thy Christ. Fulfil to each one of us that which is good for him. Bring all to perfection by Thy sanctifying grace. And gather us safely in Thy holy Church, which Thou hast purchased with the precious Blood of Thy onlybegotten Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, with Whom, and Thy most holy and life-giving Spirit, Thou art blessed and glorified, now and for ever. Amen.

Order of the Holy Eucharist.

UR Father, Which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

A

Collect for Purity.

LMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hid; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love Thee and worthily magnify Thy holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

OD spake these words, and said; I am the Lord thy God: thou shalt have none other gods but Me.

People. Lord, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.

Minister. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor the likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not
