Let heaven and earth reply-
Praise ye his Name!
-His love and grace adore,
e Who all our sorrows bore';
-And sing for evermore-
Worthy the Lamb.

0

o Cheerfully join in one,
Praising his Name;

We, who have felt his blood
Sealing our peace with God,
Sound his dear Name abroad-
Worthy the Lamb.

0

-3 Join, all ye ransomed race,
Our Lord and God to bless;
0 Praise ye his name:
o In him we will rejoice,
And make a joyful noise,
o Shouting with heart and voice-
Worthy the Lamb.

WATTS'S LYR.

Praising his name:

E lives-the great Redeemer lives;

joy assurance gives

-And now before his Father God,
Pleads the full merits of his blood.

e 2 Repeated crimes awake our fears,
And justice, armed with frowns, appears;
-But in the Saviour's lovely face,
o Sweet mercy smiles-and all is peace!

-3 Hence, then, ye black, despairing thoughts--
Above our fears, above our faults,
• His powerful intercessions rise;
And guilt recedes, and terror dies.
e 4 In every dark, distressful hour,

When sin and Satan join their power,
-Let this dear hope repel the dart-

That Jesus bears us on his heart.

5 Great Advocate, almighty Friend! On him our humble hopes depend; • Our cause can never, never fail, For Jesus pleads, and must prevail.

HYMN 32. 8 & 7. Calvary. [*]

Praise to the Redeemer.

1H bring;

AIL, thou once despised Jesus!

By thy death thou didst release us
From the tyrant's deadly sting.
2 Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,
All our sins on thee were laid;
Great High Priest, by God anointed,
Thou hast full atonement made.
3 Contrite sinners are forgiven,

Through the virtue of thy blood:
Opened is the gate of heaven,

Peace is made for man with God.

STEELE.

g 4 Jesus, hail! enthroned in glory
There forever to abide;
All the heavenly hosts adore thee,
Seated at thy Father's side
SELECT. 3

e 5 There for sinners thou art pleading; There thou dost our place prepare ; Ever for us interceding,

Till in heaven we appear.

o 6 Glory, honour, power and blessing,
Thou art worthy to receive;
• Loudest praises, without ceasing,
Meet it is for us to give.

HYMN 33. 7s. Redeeming Love. [*]

Redeeming Love.

Now begin the heavenly theme,

0 1
in name;
-Ye who Jesus' kindness prove,
Triumph in redeeming love.

2 Ye who see the Father's grace, Beaming in the Saviour's face, o As to Canaan on ye move, Praise and bless redeeming love.

e 3 Mourning souls, dry up your tears, Banish all your guilty fears;

• See your guilt and curse remove, Cancelled by redeeming love.

e 4 Ye, alas! who long have been Willing slaves of death and sin! -Now from bliss no longer rove;

Stop, and taste redeeming love.

o 5 Welcome, all by sin oppressed-
Welcome to his sacred rest:
d Nothing brought him from above,
Nothing-but redeeming love.

RIPPON'S COL.

o 6 He subdued th' infernal powers;
His tremendous foes and ours
From their cursed empire drove,
Mighty in redeeming love.

o 7 Hither, then, your music bring,
u Strike aloud each joyful string;
-Mortals, join the hosts above-
g Join to praise redeeming love

HYMN 34. C. M. Windsor. Plymouth. [*]

The Necessity of Renewing Grace.

OW helpless guilty nature lies,
Unconscious of its load!

HOW

e 1

e The heart, unchanged, can never rise To happiness and God.

p 2 The will perverse, the passions blind,
In paths of ruin stray;

Reason, debased, can never find
The safe, the narrow way.

e 3 Can aught, beneath a power divine, The stubborn will subdue?

• 'Tis thine, almighty Saviour, thine, To form the heart anew.

4 'Tis thine the passions to recall,
And upward bid them rise;
And make the scales of error fall,
From reason's darkened eyes.

5 To chase the shades of death away, And bid the sinner live;

A beam of heaven, a vital ray"Tis thine alone to give.

P

6 O change these wretched hearts of ours, And give them life divine!

o Then shall our passions and our powers, Almighty Lord, be thine!

HYMN 35. S. M.

Watchman. [*]

Prayer for the Spirit. John xiv. 26.
OME, Holy Spirit, come,

1

Dispel the sorrow from our minds-
The darkness from our eyes.

2 Convince us of our sin;
Then lead to Jesus' blood;
And to our wondering view reveal
The secret love of God.

3 Revive our drooping faith;
Our doubts and fears remove;
And kindle in our breasts the flame
Of never-dying love.

4 "Tis thine to cleanse the heart-
To sanctify the soul-

To pour fresh life in every part,
And new-create the whole.

o 5 Dwell, Spirit, in our hearts;
Our minds from bondage free;
• Then shall we know, and praise, and love,
The Father, Son, and Thee.

e 2 Rest for my soul I long to find:
Saviour of all, if mine thou art-
Give me thy meek, thy lowly mind,
And stamp thine image on my heart.
-3 Break off the yoke of inbred sin,
And fully set my spirit free;
I cannot rest till pure within,
Till I am wholly lost in thee.

HYMN 36. L. M. Carthage. [b]
Sorrow for Sin.

my

THAT load of sin were gone!
O that I could at last submit!
At Jesus' feet to lay me down-
To lay my soul at Jesus' feet.

4 Fain would I learn of thee, my God;
Thy light and easy burden prove-
The cross, all stained with hallowed blood-
The labour of thy dying love.

d 5 I would-but thou must give the power:
My heart from every sin release;
Bring near, bring near the joyful hour,
And fill me with thy perfect peace.

o 6 Come, Lord, the drooping sinner cheer,
Nor let thy chariot wheels delay;
Appear, in my poor heart appear;
My God, my Saviour, come away.

1HOW oft, alas! this wretched heart

Has from the Lord! How oft my roving thoughts depart, Forgetful of his word!"
