(y) Put away lying, and speak every man truth with his neighbour; for we are members one of another.

(x) Lay aside all guile and hypocrisies. Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

(a) As God is true, let not your word toward one another be yea and nay.

(b) Of whom hast thou been afraid, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, (saith the Lord) nor laid it to thy heart?

(c) He that hateth, dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him: He blesseth with his mouth, but curseth inwardly; speaking lies in hypocrisy.

(d) As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death; so is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport.

(e) A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

(f) A man that flattereth his neighbour, spreadeth a net for his feet.

(g) A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

(b) A double-minded man is unstable in all his

ways.

(i) He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people, curse; nations shall abhor him.

Whose

(*) Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

(1) The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment : For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

(m) Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord; but they that deal truly are his delight.

(2) The Lord shall destroy them which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their

hearts.

(0) All liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.

EDIFICATION.
In general.

(p) Comfort yourselves together, and edify one

another.

(2) Let us follow after the things, wherewith one may edify another. Let all things be done to edifying.

(r) Let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works; and so much the more, as we see the day approaching,

(s) Let every one of us please his neighbour, for his good to edification; not seeking our own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. For even Christ pleased not himself.

(t) All things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

10.23.

(z) Strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

(w) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good, to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the

hearers.

(x) Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Speak a word in season to him that is weary, and let thy words uphold him that is falling.

(y) If a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

(~) Of some have compassion, making a difference; and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire.

(a) Confess your faults one to another; and sub mit yourselves, one to another, in the fear of God, (b) He that winneth souls is wise.

(c) Brethren, if any of you do err from the faith, and one convert him, let him know, that he which coverteth the sinner from the error of his way, shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

By Instruction.

(d) Have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that ye yourselves also are compassed with infirmity.

[blocks in formation]

(e) Instruct those that oppose themselves; cause them to understand wherein they have erred; and make them know the certainty of the words of truth: That they that err in spirit may come to understanding; and they that murmur, may learn doctrine. For how forcible are right words!

(f) Give not that which is holy unto the dogs neither cast ye your pearls before swine: lest they trample them under their feet, and tura again and rent you. Behold the word of the Lord is to them a reproach, they have no delight in it.

(g) Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

(b) Give instruction to a wise man, and he will. be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

(i) Wo unto you that have taken away the key of knowledge. Ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

Admonition.

(k) Exhort one another daily, while it is called to-day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

(2) Be not negligent to put one another always in remembrance of these things which pertain unto life and godliness, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

[blocks in formation]

(m) Ye also that are full of goodness, and filled with all knowledge, admonish one another..

(2) If any man obey not the word of God, note that mah, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed; yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

(0) Warn them that are unruly.

(P) We must all appear before the judgmentseat of Christ, that every one may receive according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.

Reproof.

(9) Thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

(r) Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

(s) He that refuseth reproof erreth. He that hateth reproof is brutish: But he that regardeth reproof, shall be honoured.

(t) He that being often reproved, hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

(u) He that rebuketh a man, afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with his tongue.

(w) Open rebuke is better than sacred love: For faithful are the wounds of a friend.

(x) As an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
