stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more, &c. To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the Lord, &c. When ye make many prayers, I will not hear you, for your hands are full of blood. Wash you, make you clean, &c. Come now, and let us reason, &c. but if ye refuse, and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword, &c. Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries.-Isa. i. 2, 3. 5. 11. 15, 16. 18. 20. 23, 24.

Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people, because, &c. their land is full of idols.-Isa. ii. 6, &c.

Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory. Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks, &c. therefore the Lord shall smite with a scab, &c. the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments, &c.-Isa. iii. 8. 16-24.

Judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? I will take away the hedge thereof, &c. The prophet pronounceth many woes against several sinners.-Isa.v.3-26.

God gave up Israel to hardness and blindness for their sins, till they should be laid waste.-Isa. vi. 10–12.

God threatens Jacob and Israel for their pride and stoutness of heart, because they turned not unto him that smote them. Their leaders cause them to err, that he will cut off, &c. And for all this, his anger is not turned away.-Isa. ix. 8-21.

O Assyrian, &c. I will send him against an hypocritical nation; and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, &c.-Isa. x. 5, 6.

God's great judgments threatened against Babylon.-Isa. xiii. xiv. 4, &c. xlvii.

It is a people of no understanding:

therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, &c.-Isa. xxvii. 11.

They would not hear, &c. Ye scornful men, &c. ye shall be trodden down. Isa. xxviii. 12. 14. 18, &c.

The Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near with their mouth, &c. but have removed their heart far from me; and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men; therefore, &c. the wisdom of their wise men shall perish; and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. Woe unto them that seek deep, to hide their counsel from the Lord: and their works are in the dark.-Isa. xxix. 13-15. xxiv. 5,&c.

God threatens Israel for leaning upon Egypt for help, and not hearkening to stay on God.-Isa. xxx. 1—17. xxxi. 1.

This people have I formed for myself, &c. But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob: but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel. Thou hast not brought me the small cattle, &c. but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins: thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities, &c. Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers, &c. therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary; and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.-Isa. xliii. 21—24. 27, 28.

O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments; then had thy peace been as a river, &c.—Isa. xlviii. 18. Deut. xxxii. 28—30.

Your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear: for your hands are defiled with blood, &c. None calleth for justice.-Isa. lix. 1, &c. 1. 1, 2.

I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, &c. I will not keep silence; but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, &c. Ye are they that forsake the Lord, that forget my holy

mountain, &c. therefore will I number you to the sword, &c.-Isa. lxv. 2, 3. 6. 11, 12, &c. Rom. x. 21.

They have chosen their own ways; and their soul delighteth in their abominations: I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer, &c. but they did evil before mine eyes, &c.-Isa. lxvi. 3, 4. Jer. xviii. 12, 13. 16, 17.

What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me? &c. Wherefore will I yet plead with you, saith the Lord; and with your children, &c. See if there be such a thing. Hath a nation changed their gods? &c. But my people have changed their glory, &c. Be astonished, O ye heavens ! &c. They have forsaken me, the fountain, &c. Hast thou not procured this unto thyself? &c. Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backsliding shall reprove thee, &c. In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction, &c. Have I been a barren wilderness? &c. Can a maid forget her ornaments?-Jer. ii. 5. 9-13. 17. 19. 30-32. Isa. 1. 1. Hosea vii. 1,2. Isa. xvii. 10. Ezek. xxiv. 13.

And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away, &c. yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also, &c. Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly.-Jer. iii. 8-10.

Ó Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved how long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee? &c. Thy way, and thy doings have procured these things unto thee: this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.Jer. iv. 14. 18.

How shall I pardon thee for this? Thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they

then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses: they were as fed horses in the morning, every one neighed after his neighbour's wife. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the Lord; and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy, &c. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you, &c. A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means, and my people love to have it so and what will ye do in the end thereof? Jer.v.7-10. 25. 29-31. ix. 3—9. Ezek. xx. 15, 16.

Thus hath the Lord of hosts said, &c. Cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited, she is wholly oppression in the midst of her, &c. Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee, &c. I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the Lord; for from the least of them, even to the greatest of them, every one is given unto covetousness; and from the prophet, even unto the priest, every one dealeth falsely, &c. Hear, O earth: Behold, I will bring evil upon this people, &c.-Jer. vi. 6. 8. 12-16. 18, 19. vii. 8, &c.

They were not ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall, &c.-Jer. viii. 12, &c.

Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant. They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words. Therefore, thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them, &c. Therefore pray not thou for this people, for I will not hear them, &c. Jer. xi. 3. 10, 11. 14. xxxv. 17. xiv. 11, 12. xviii. 17.

Their tongue is as an arrow, &c. Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the Lord.-Jer. ix. 8, 9.

What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? &c. Shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail? &c. For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, &c. Woe unto thee, &c. Wilt thou not be made clean? &c.—Jer. xiii. 21, 22. 27. xiv. 11, 12.

Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, &c. such as are for death, to death, &c. Who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? who shall bemoan thee? &c. Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord.-Jer. xv. 1, 2. 5, &c.

Ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me therefore will I cast you out of this land, &c.-Jer. xvi. 12, &c. The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron; and with a point of a diamond, it is graven upon the tables of their hearts, &c. Jer. xvii. 1. 23. 27.

Return ye, &c. And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, &c.-Jer. xviii. 11, 12. 15, &c.

The land is full of adulterers: for because of swearing (or cursing) the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up.-Jer. xxiii. 10. 39, 40.

As the evil figs, &c. so will I give the king and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt; and I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach, &c. And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, till they be consumed from off the land.-Jer. xxiv. 8-10. xxv. 7-11.

Thus saith the Lord, If they will

hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them, because of the evil of their doings, &c. If ye will not hearken, &c. then will I make this house like Shiloh : and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.-Jer. xxvi. 2-6.

God threatened and punished many for prophesying falsely, and for uttering lies to Israel.—Jer. xxviii. 15–17. xxix. 21. 31, 32.

Thus saith the Lord, Thy bruise is incurable, &c. for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.-Jer. xxx. 12—15.

Because of all the evil of the children of Israel, &c. this city, &c. shall be delivered into the hand, &c.-Jer. xxxii. 32. 36, &c. fulfilled xxxix.

Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the Lord, to the sword, and to the pestilence, &c.--Jer. xxxiv. 17.

This Jerusalem, &c. hath changed my judgments into wickedness, more than the nations, &c. Therefore thus saith the Lord, I, even I, am against thee, &c. therefore the fathers shall eat the sons, &c.-Ezek. v. 5-10.

When God had shewed Ezekiel Judah's abominations, he saith unto him, Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eyes shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry, &c. yet will I not hear them. -Ezek. viii. 18. ix. 8-10. vii. 3, 4. 8, 9.

But as for them whose heart walketh, &c, I will recompense their way upon their own head. The glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city.-Ezek xi. 21-23.

When the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it,

and will cut off man and beast from it. Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they should deliver but their own souls, &c.-Ezek. xiv. 13-20.

Pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness, were Sodom's sins, for which God took her away.-Ezek. xvi. 49, 50.

Thus saith the Lord God, Are ye come to inquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you, &c.-Ezek. xx. 3,4.

God reckons up many sins of Jerusalem, and then says, Can thine heart endure? Can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the Lord have spoken it, and will do it and I will scatter thee, &c. Ezek. xxii. 1—15.

When the righteous man turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby. Ezek. xxxiii. 12, 13. 18.

The heathen shall know, that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity, because they trespassed against me; therefore, &c. ⚫Ezek. xxxix. 23, 24.

The kings of Babylon punished for their pride, &c.-Dan. iv. 31, 32. v. Let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, &c. lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, &c. and I will not have mercy upon her children, &c.-Hosea ii. 2-5.

The Lord hath a controversy with the land, because no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God is in the land: by swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood: therefore shall the land mourn, &c. Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.-Hosea iv. 1-17.

The pride of Israel doth testify to his face therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity. Judah also shall fall with them they shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the Lord: but they shall not find he hath withdrawn

himself from them. They have dealt treacherously against the Lord.Hosea v. 5-7. Zech. vii. 11-13.

They consider not, &c. now their own doings have beset them about, they, &c. Woe unto them, for they have fled from me: destruction unto them, because they have transgressed, &c. They return, but not to the Most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword, &c.-Hosea vii. 2. 13-16.

Woe to them when I depart from them for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of my house: I will love them no more, &c. Hosea ix. 12. 15.

How shall I give thee up, Ephraim ? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? &c. mine heart is turned within me, &c.— Hosea xi. 8, 9. vi. 4.

They hate him that rebuketh in the gate: they abhor him that speaketh uprightly, &c. I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies, &c.Amos v. 10-12. 21-23.

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, &c. that put far away the evil day, &c. that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, &c. that chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David: that drink wine in bowls, &c. but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph; therefore now shall they go captive, &c. I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces.

Amos vi. 1.3-8. Isa. v. 11-13. 22. Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up, &c. thence will I, &c. Amos ix. 2, &c.

They shall cry unto the Lord, but he will not hear them; he will even hide his face from them as they behaved themselves ill in their doings, &c. They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity; the heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire,
