THERE is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.-1 Tim. ii. 5. By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.—Heb. vii. 22. He is the Mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.-Heb. viii. 6. And for this cause he is the Mediator of the new testament, that, &c. Heb. ix. 15. And to Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant (or testament).-Heb. xii. 24. SECT. II. He took upon him the Nature of Man, a Body of Flesh, and humbled himself. GoD said to the serpent, &c. I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.-Gen. iii, 14, 15. Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel.-Isa, vii. 14. ix. 6. And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots; and the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, &c. -Isa. xi. 1, 2. Acts xiii. 22, 23. He who sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified, are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, &c. As the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death, &c.
