He sanctifieth us: is our
Sanctification.

In that day there shall be a fountain
opened, &c. for sin, and for unclean
ness.-Zech. xiii. 1.

Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part in me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. John xiii. 8, 9.

And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth (or truly sanctified).-John xvii. 19.

Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, &c.-1 Cor. i. 30.

Ye are washed, ye are sanctified, &c. in the name of the Lord Jesus.1 Cor. vi. 11.

Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it: that he might sanctify and cleanse it, with the washing of water, by the word; that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that he should be holy, and without blemish.-Eph. v. 25-27.

Both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified, are all of one, &c. -Hob. ii. 11.

If the blood of bulls, &c. sanctifieth, &c. how much more shall the blood of Christ, &c. purge ?—Heb. ix. 13, 14.

We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all, &c. For by one offering (or one only oblation) he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified, &c. and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, &c. Heb. x. 10. 14. 29.

Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate, &c.-Heb.

xiii. 12.

Jesus, &c. that loved us, and washed

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, &c.-Acts v. 30. Whom they slew, and hanged on a tree; him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly, &c. unto witnesses chosen before of God. Acts x. 39-41.

He hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world, &c. by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.-Acts xvii. 31.

The prophets and Moses did say, &c. that Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead.-Acts xxvi. 22, 23.

God raised him from the dead, &c. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise; I will give you the sure mer- Great is the mystery of godliness": cies of David, &c. Who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.-Rom. iv. 24, 25.

Knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. Rom. vi. 9.

I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received; how that Christ died, &c. That he rose again the third day, according to the scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas, &c. If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain, &c. ye are yet in your sins, &c. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.-1 Cor. xv. 3-5. 14. 17. 20.

Though he was crucified through

And you, being dead, &c. hath he quickened together with him, &c. through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.-Col. ii. 12, 13.

Wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead.-1 Thess. i. 10.

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, &c.-Heb. xiii. 20.

SECT. VIII.

He ascended into Heaven ; is our Way to the Father; our Advocate and Intercessor there. THOU hast ascended on high: thou hast led captivity captive, &c.-Ps. lxviii. 18. Eph. iv. 8.

So then, after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.-Mark xvi. 19. Luke xxiv. 51.

Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he might sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not.-Luke xxii. 31, 32.

I am the door; by me if any man

enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture.-John x. 9.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. -John xiv. 6.

It is expedient for you, that I go away, &c. If I depart, I will send the Comforter unto you; and when he is come, he will reprove the world, &c. of righteousness, because I go my Father, &c. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and go to the Father. John xvi. 7, 8. 10. 16. 28.

Jesus said unto her, Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.-John xx. 17.

All that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after that he had given commandments to the apostles, &c. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, &c. When he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men, &c. said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall, &c. Acts i. 1-3. 9-11.

This Jesus, &c. being by the right hand of God exalted, &c. For David is not ascended into the heavens : but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, &c. God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.-Acts ii. 3234. 36.

Jesus, &c. whom the heavens must receive until the times of restitution, &c.-Acts iii. 20, 21.

Behold (said Stephen) I see the

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, &c, who is even at the right hand of God; who also maketh intercession for us.-Rom. viii. 34.

He raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand, in the heavenly places, &c.-Eph. i. 20.

But now in Christ Jesus, ye, who sometimes were far off, are made nigh, &c. Through him we both have an access by one Spirit unto the Father: now, therefore, ye are no more strangers, but fellow-citizens, &c. of the household of God.-Eph. ii. 13. 18, 19.

Jesus, our Lord: in whom we have boldness and access with confidence, by the faith of him.-Eph. iii. 11, 12. Ps. cxxxviii. 3.

sceptre, &c. Therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil, &c.-Ps. xlv. 5-7. Heb, i. 8.

Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies, whereby the people fall under thee. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right

Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive, thou hast received gifts for men.-Ps. Ixviii. 18. Isa. liii. 12.

He shall judge, &c. He shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.-Ps. lxxii. 2. 4. 12—14.

Unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders, &c. Of the increase of his government shall be no end; upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, &c.—Isa. ix. 6, 7. xxxii. 1. xi. 1, &c. lv. 4.

The days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, &c. in his days shall Judah be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely.-Jer. xxiii. 5, 6. xxxiii. 17. Zech. vi. 12, 13.

I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them; even my servant David, &c. I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them.-Ezek. xxxiv. 23, 24.

The Messiah, the Prince.-Dan. ix. 25.

Thou, Bethlehem, &c. out of thee shall he come forth unto me, that is to be ruler in Israel.-Micah v. 2.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, &c. Behold, &c.-Zech. ix. 9,

Jesus; he shall be great, &c. And the Lord shall give him the throne of his father David, and he shall reign &c. for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.-Luke i.31–33.

When a strong man armed keepetli his palace, his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour, &c.-Luke xi. 21, 22.

We will not have this man to reign over us, &c. Those, mine enemies, &c. bring hither, and slay them, &c. Luke xix. 14. 27.

When he is come, he will reprove the world, &c. of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged, &c. Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.-John xvi. 8. 11. 33.

God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.-Acts ii. 36. Ps. cx. 1-3. Luke xx. 42, 43.

Him hath God exalted with his right hand, to be a Prince, and a Saviour, &c.-Acts v. 31.

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? &c. Thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus. -1 Cor. xv. 55-57.

He blotted out the hand-writing of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary unto us; and took it out of the way, &c. and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it (or in himself).Col. ii. 14, 15.

It became him, &c. in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect, &c. He also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil: and deliver them, who through fear of death, were all their lifetime subject to bondage.-Heb. ii. 10. 14, 15.

But this man, &c. sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth

There is one lawgiver who is able to save, and to destroy.--James iv. 12. Even as I also overcame, and am sat down with my Father in his throne, Rev. iii. 21.

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is the Lord of lords, and King of kings.-Rev. xvii. 14.

SECT. X. He is our great Prophet and Shepherd, to teach, guide, and feed us.

THE Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken, &c. And the Lord said, They have well spoken, &c. I will raise them up a prophet, &c. and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him: and it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.--Deut. xviii. 15—19. Acts iii. 22, 23. vii. 37.

I will declare thy name unto my brethren.--Ps. xxii. 22.

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation, &c. I have declared thy faithfulness, and thy sal→ vation, &c.-Ps. xl. 9, 10.

Thou hast received gifts for men ; yea, for the rebellious also. Ps. Ïxviii. 18. Unto us a Son is given, &c. his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor.-Isa. ix. 6.

Behold, the Lord God will come, &c. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.-Isa. xl. 10, 11.

A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth, &c. The isles shall wait for his law. I the Lord give thee, &c. a light of the Gentiles, to
