....

"This is a work of great importance to the Biblical Critic. Father Houbigant has corrected and reformed the present Hebrew Text, according to the Samaritan, Syriac, Chaldee, Septuagint ancient editions of the Hebrew Bible, and ancient Hebrew MSS. His Latin version is allowed to be clear, elegant, and energetic. Each book is preceded by a judicious and learned preface; and the critical works are both judicious and concise."-Clarke's Bibliographical Dictionary, vol. i. p. 229. 7235. 7236. Biblia Sacra Latina, 2 vols. £18. Sine anno et loco, circa 1470. Neither Panzer, Meerman, Le Long, or Masch, appear to have seen this

7237.

edition. Panzer has described a copy with the same number of leaves and lines as in this, which he has taken from Braun. Masch describes a second volume only: neither of the quotations in those are similar to the present. It is printed in double columns: the first volume contains 229 leaves, and 50 lines in a full page; the second 216 leaves, and 48 lines. A fine large copy, in the original oak boards. Latina, £8. 8s.

Nur. per Ant. Koburger, Nov. 4, 1478. Koburger, in the course of 26 years, produced twelve different editions of the Bible. This is a remarkably fine copy, and extremely rare.

7243. Blanca (Hier.) Regum Aragonum Veterumq. Comitum depietas Effigies, in Regia Cæsar Augustanensi deputationis aula positas Inscriptiones, 12s.

Cesaraugusta Typ. Regni. 1587. 7244. Block Book.—SPECULUM HUMANÆ SALVA

TIONIS.

Printed with moveable types, and the wood block cuts at the top of each page. Mr. Ottley (in his valuable History of Engraving on Wood) has proved by the comparison of the blocks as used in the various impressions, that the edition supposed by preceding bibliographers to be the first, is erroneously called so. The present Copy is the first edition, and no other Copy is known. And what enhances the value of this remarkable volume is, it is entirely free from worm-holes ; every part is in the most perfect state, and the cuts are not disfigured by the usual rude attempts at what was thought improvement, by the means of colouring them.

7245. Boetius de Consolatione Philosophiæ, Latinè et Belgicè, £24. Gheprends te Ghend by my Aren de Keysere, 1485. This very fine Copy is ruled, and ornamented with six large Miniatures, which display all the richness of colouring, correctness of design in the architecture, and beauty of borders, so conspicuous in the best Flemish Missals of the period.

Messrs. S. and N. Buck spent upwards of Thirty-two years in the above work it will always be interesting to the Antiquary, as also those who are fond of Romantic Scenery; many of the buildings are now utterly destroyed, and every year will probably decrease the number.
