GOD, forgive the sins I have committed. Forgive me that I have earnestly repent. I am heartily sorry. Have mercy upon me for all my past neglect of Thee and of my duty and make me pure and holy; for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

PSALM LI.

Miserere mei, Deus.

AVE mercy upon me, O God, after Thy great goodness according to the multitude of Thy mercies do away mine offences.

Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness: and cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my faults: and my sin is ever before me.

Against Thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in Thy sight that Thou mightest be justified in Thy saying, and clear when Thou art judged.

Behold, I was shapen in wickedness and in sin hath my mother conceived me.

But lo, Thou requirest truth in the inward.

parts and shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly.

Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness: that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice. Turn Thy face away from my sins and put out all my misdeeds.

Make me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Thy presence and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

O give me the comfort of Thy help again and stablish me with Thy free Spirit.

Then shall I teach Thy ways unto the wicked: and sinners shall be converted unto Thee.

Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, Thou that art the God of my health and my tongue shall sing of Thy righteousness.

:

Thou shalt open my lips, O Lord and my mouth shall shew Thy praise.

For Thou desirest no sacrifice, else would I give it Thee but Thou delightest not in burntofferings.

:

The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit : a broken and contrite heart, O God, shalt Thou not despise.

B

O be favourable and gracious unto Zion: build Thou the walls of Jerusalem.

Then shalt Thou be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, with the burnt-offerings and oblations then shall they offer young bullocks upon Thine altar.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

Acts of Faith.

Encourage thoughts of the love of Jesus, our Saviour.

Think: In this Holy Communion He assures us that He has offered Himself as the Sacrifice for all the sins of the world.

I am seeking Communion with Jesus; and therefore seeking to receive all the benefits of His Passion.

Thanks be to God, I may receive hereby forgiveness of all my sins; and grace to help me according to my needs.

WE

Prayer of humble access.

E do not presume to come to this Thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in Thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as

But

to gather up the crumbs under Thy Table. Thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of Thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink His blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by His body, and our souls washed through His most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in Him, and He in us. Amen.

To encourage a greater longing for Communion with God, say:

PSALM LXXXIV.

Quam dilecta!

HOW amiable are Thy dwellings Thou Lord of hosts!

My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young even Thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

Blessed are They that dwell in Thy house: they will be alway praising Thee.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee : in whose heart are Thy ways.

Who going through the vale of misery use it for a well and the pools are filled with water.

They will go from strength to strength and unto the God of gods appeareth every one of them in Sion.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer : hearken, O God of Jacob.

:

Behold, O God our defender and look upon the face of Thine Anointed.

For one day in Thy courts: is better than a thousand.

I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of ungodliness.

For the Lord God is a light and defence: the Lord will give grace and worship, and no good thing shall He withhold from them that live a godly life.

O Lord God of hosts : blessed is the man that putteth his trust in Thee.

Glory be to the Father, &c.
