LORD fwear unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

Job. i. 8. This book of the law fhall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: For then shalt thou make thy way profperous, and then thou fhalt have good fuccefs.

Pf. cxix. 9. Wherewith shall a young man cleanse his ways? By taking heed thereto, according to thy word.

Pf. xxxvii. 31. The law of GOD is in his heart; none of his steps fhall flide..

P. i. 2. His delight is in the law of the LORD, and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

I. lxiv. 5. Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, thofe that remember thee in thy ways.

XII. To FASTING.

Joel ii. 15. Blow the trumpet in Zion, fanctify a faft, call a folemn affembly.

Ver. 16. Gather the people; fanctify the congregation; affemble the elders; gather the children, and thofe that fuck the breafts; let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Ver. 17. Let the priests, the minifters of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them fay, Spare thy people, O LORD, &c.

Ver. 18. Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

Fafting in Secret.

Matth. vi. 17. Thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face:

Ver. 18. That thou appear not to men to faft, būt unto thy Father which is in fecret: And thy Father which feeth in fecret, fhall reward thee openly.

XIII. To BAPTISM.

Mark xvi. 16. He that believeth, and is baptized, fhall be faved.

Aas ii. 38. Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jefus Chrift, for the remiffion of fins, and ye fhall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts xxii. 16. Arife, and be baptized, and wash away thy fins, calling upon the name of the LORD.

Rom. vi. 3. Know ye not, that as many of us as were baptized into Jefus Chrift, were baptized into his death.

Ver. 4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptifm into death; that like as Chrift was raised up

from

from the dead by the glory of the Father, even fo we alfo fhould walk in newness of life.

1 Cor. xii. 13. By one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free.

Gal. iii. 27. For as many of you as have been baptized into Chrift, have put on Christ.

Col. ii. 12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also you are rifen with him through the faith of the operation of GOD, who hath raised him from the dead.

1 Pet. iii. 20. Wherein (i. e. the ark) few, that is, eight fouls, were faved by water.

Ver. 21. The like figure whereunto even baptifm doth alfo now fave us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good confcience towards GOD) by the refurrection of Jefus Chrift.

XIV. To the LORD'S SUPPER.

Matth. xxvi. 26. Jefus took bread, and bleffed it, and brake it, and gave it to the difciples, and faid,. Take, eat; this is my body.

Ver. 27. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, faying, Drink ye all of it: Ver. 28. For this is my blood of the New Teftament, which is fhed for many, for the remiffion of fins.

I Cor. x. 16. The cup of bleffing, which we blefs, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

I Cor. xii. 13. We have been all made to drink into one fpirit.

John vi. 54. Whofo eateth my flefh, and drink

Though this be a figurative expreffion of faith in Chrift's death, yet it. is applicable to the particular exercise of it at the Lord's table.

eth my blood, hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Ver. 55. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood

is drink indeed.

Ver. 56. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Ver. 57. As the living Father hath fent me, and I live by the Father; fo he that eateth me, even he fhall live by me.

Ver. 63. It is the Spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing: The words that I fpeak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life.

Cant. ii. 3. I fat under his fhadow with great delight, and his fruit was fweet to my tafte.

Ver. 4. He brought me to the banquetting-house, and his banner over me was love.

Cant. v. 1. Eat, O friends ; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

If. xxv. 6. And in this mountain fhall the LORD of hofts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

XV. To GOOD DISCOURSE.

Prov. xii. 9. The mouth of the upright fhall deliver them.

Ver. 14. A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompence of a man's hand fhall be rendered unto him.

Ver. The tongue of the wife is health.

Prov. xiii. 2. A man fhall eat good by the fruit of his mouth.

Prov. xv. 4. A wholefome tongue is a tree of life. Ver. 23. A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word spoken in due season, how good is it?

Prov. xvi. 24. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb; fweet to the foul, and health to the bones.

Prov. xviii. 20. A man's belly fhall be fatisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips fhall he be filled.

Ver. 21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it, fhall eat the fruit there of.

Mal. iii. 16. Then they that feared the LORD fpake often to one another, and the LORD hearkened and heard it; and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

Ver. 17. And they fhall be mine, faith the LORD of hofts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own fon that ferveth him.

To the Government of the Tongue.

Prov. xxxi. 23.

Prov. xiii. 3. He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his life.

Prov. xiv. 3. The lips of the wife fhall preserve them.

Whofo keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his foul from trouble.

Matt. xii. 37. By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou fhalt be condemned.

1 Pet. iii. 10. He that will love life, and fee good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil; and his lips, that they fpeak no guile.

XVI. TO WATCHFULNESS.

Luke xii. 37. Bleffed are thofe fervants, whom the Lord when he cometh fhall find watching: Verily I fay unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to fit down to meat, and will come forth and ferve them.
