PORTANCE OF THE SUBJECT.- GENERAL

RECOGNITION, BY MANKIND, OF THE PRINCIPLE OF ATONEMENT FOR SIN.

THERE is no subject within the whole compass of human thought, which ranks higher in sublimity and importance, than that of the Atonement by CHRIST JESUS. It may,

indeed, be regarded as the master-piece, and the glory, of all the divine Attributes; for, whether it be contemplated in its origin, its design, or its execution, it is alike wonderful, and equally displays the depths of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of GOD.

This Subject is properly the THEME Of ALL Revelation; and, without it, all Revelation must have been useless to mankind. So momentous, indeed, is this high Theme in the estimation of its all-wise Author, that it would seem as if nothing were revealed to the world, that bears not a relation, either more or less proximate, to the great Atonement.
