cial Work of Jesus fully perfected, nor his mediatorial work fully begun, nor the Holy Spirit fully given to the world, until, having been raised from the dead, by the glory of the Father, he had, by his own Blood, entered once into the Holy Place, and appeared in the presence of God,having obtained eternal Redemption for us. Under the Mosaic Dispensation, moreover, (whose typical Ordinances, no longer needed, were now for ever abolished,) every Priest stood daily ministering, and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which could never take away sins; but this Man, after He had offered one Sacrifice for Sins, for ever sat down at the right

hand

hand of God, from henceforth expecting till His enemies shall be made his footstool; for BY ONE OFFERING, He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified, Heb. x. 11-14.

IN the preceding Chapters, the Writer by no means designed to go at large into the Subject of the Christian Sacrifice; but rather to confine his Observations to that particular Branch of it, which more especially regarded the Personality of the Messiah, and the Relations, respective as well as joint, sustained by His Divine and

Human Nature in effecting and consummating that Sacrifice. How far he has succeeded, he is incompetent to judge: his Readers will think for themselves. Of this however, he is certain, that if he have in the most humble measure exalted the everblessed Saviour of Men, and removed out of the way of the Sceptic, any of those difficulties, which had unhappily obstructed his approach to Him, he will have

attained that which he desired, and for which he presumed to hope. The general question of Atonement has been so largely and so well discussed by others, as to ren

der a contrary course from that which he

has chosen, wholly unnecessary, even if
