And he shall purify the sons of Levi : and purge them as gold and silver;

That they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem: be pleasant unto the LORD;

As in the days of old and as in former

years.

HYMN II.

Second Sunday in Advent.

Isaiah xi. 1-9.

And there shall come forth a Rod out of the stem of Jesse : and a branch shall grow out of his roots;

And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him the Spirit of wisdom and understanding;

The Spirit of counsel and might the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD.

:

And he shall not judge after the sight of

:

his eyes neither reprove after the hearing of his ears;

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth;

And he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his

lips shall he slay the wicked.

And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins: and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb: and the leopard shall lie down with the kid :

And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together and a little child shall lead them.

And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together and the lion shall eat straw like the ox;

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp: and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain;

For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the

sea.

HYMN III.

Third Sunday in Advent.

Isaiah lxi. 1-6.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me: because the LORD hath anointed me

To preach good tidings unto the meek: he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted;

To proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God;

To comfort all that mourn: to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,

To give them beauty for ashes: the oil of joy for mourning,

The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;

that

That they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD he might be glorified.

And they shall build the old wastes they shall raise up the former desolations,

And they shall repair the waste cities the desolations of many generations.

:

And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers ;

:

But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD men shall call you the Ministers of our God.

HYMN IV.

Fourth Sunday in Advent.

Isaiah xlii. 1-7.

Behold my Servant whom I uphold : mine elect in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my Spirit upon him : he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

He shall not cry, nor lift up: nor cause his voice to be heard in the street;

:

A bruised reed shall he not break and the smoking flax shall he not quench.

He shall bring forth judgment unto truth: he shall not fail nor be discouraged;

Till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

Thus saith God the LORD he that created the heavens and stretched them out; He that spread forth the earth and that which cometh out of it ;

:

He that giveth breath to the people upon it and spirit to them that walk therein;

I the LORD have called thee in righteousness and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee;

And give thee for a covenant of the people for a light of the Gentiles :

;

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.

HYMN V.

Christmas Day.

Isaiah Ix. 1-3. 10-12. 14.

Arise, shine, for thy light is come and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee; For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth and gross darkness the people.

But the LORD shall arise upon thee: and his glory shall be seen upon thee;
