That Certificates of Childrens being alive, at the Time the Nurses demand Payment for them, are produced.

That proper Registers be produced of the Deaths and Burials of Children, and that these be properly filed in the Office.

That the Cloathing wanted by the Inspectors be regularly fent to them; for which Purpose he is to fend the Matron an Account of what is required.

He takes an Account of the Carriage of all incidental Charges relating to the Infpection of Children, fuch as Allowances for Expences of the Sick Children, travelling Charges, &c. all which Expences are to be kept in a Book under the Head of each Infpector; and he is to deliver his Accounts weekly to the Secretary, to be laid before the Committee.

He is to write Letters to the Inspectors to provide a fufficient Number of Nurfes for the Service of the Hospital, at the Times which fhall be appointed.

Alfo to acquaint the Committee, from Time to Time, what Children are of Age to be returned to the Hofpital, and to fee that fuch Children be returned as the Committee. fhall direct; he is likewife to acquaint the Secretary with all the Drafts for Money which are made by the Infpectors, that he may lay the Account before the Committee.

§. 15. Of the Clerk of Reception of CHILDREN.

He keeps an Account of the Nurses coming from the Country for Children; fees the Chil

dren

dren regularly numbered, billetted, and proper Receipts taken from the Country Nurses; and tranfmits the Billets and Receipts to the Secretary, together with his Accounts of Reception, that they may be properly entered in the Registerbook.

He keeps the Account of the House of Reception, and of the Infirmary, in feparate Books; and lays before the Committee the Demands of Cloathing, Furniture, or Medicines, which may be wanted for either of thefe Places.

He takes care of the Christenings of Children, and that they be fent, as foon as convenient, into the Country; and to prevent the Exchange of Children by the Country Nurfes, he examines the Numbers and Names when the Nurfes take their Leave, to return into the Country.

CHA P. II.

Of the DOMESTIC OECONOMY..

1. Of the SERVANTS of the HOSPITAL.

LL Officers, Nurfes, and Servants, who

are employed in this Hofpital, are to be Perions of good Characters, and unincumbered with families; they are to profefs the Proteftant Religion, and to take the Oaths to the Government, if required. They are diligently to attend their respective Bufineffes, and not interrupt other Servants, or interfere with them.

They are to avoid all contention with their Fellow- Servants, and to behave with due Respect to thofe placed over them. If they find themselves ill-treated or injured, they are to complain to the Committee, and not to particular Governors.

They are not to be wafteful of the Provifion of the Hospital, nor of any Thing committed to their Charge.

They are not to game, or drink fpirituous Liquors, or have any fuch in their Custody, nor to afk, or take, any Fee, or Reward, on any Pretence whatsoever, but only the Wages or annual Gratuity, allowed them under pain of being immediately discharged.

When they are fick, they are taken care of in the Infirmary, or otherwife, as the Committee. directs.

Every Perfon applying to be a Servant in the Hospital, is acquainted, that Servants are to be paid Wages, only to the respective days of their Difcharge; that they may be discharged without warning; and are not to demand any Certifi cate, or written Character, when discharged; and Care is taken, at the Time of hiring the common Servants, that they have a good CharaЄter, are in Health, have had the Small-pox, and do not exceed the Age of forty Years.

$ 2. Of the PREACHERS.

The Preachers are to be appointed by the Treasurer, and to have a Guinea for each Sermon.

The Reader is to have a Salary of 40 l. per Annum. He is to read Prayers in the Chapel on Sundays, at Eleven in the Morning, and Five in the Evening, and at fuch other Times as the Committee fhall appoint; to baptize and bury the Children of the Hofpital, and to fign the Certificates of Baptisms and Burials: he is to catechize the Children publickly, in the Afternoons, during the Summer Season, and privately in the Winter.

He is to explain the Catechifm publickly to the Children, for twelve Sundays fucceffively every Year, beginning on the first Sunday in May, and diligently to inftruct them in the Principles of the Chriftian Religion and the Duties of Morality.

The Chapel-Clerk, and the Meffengers who are to officiate as Vergers, have proper Gowns provided for them.

$3. Of the MASTER, or OVERSEER of the Boxs.

He is to be a Perfon of unblemished Character, and not too far advanced in Years, and to be unincumbered with a Family. He refides constantly in the Hospital; he observes strictly the Behaviour of the Children, as well at their Hours of Play, and at Meals, as at the Time of their Labour and Learning: he is conftant at Divine Service, and takes care that the Children behave decently and reverently; he reads fuch Prayers in the School, Morning and Evening, to the Children, as fhall be ordered by the Committee.

He also teaches the Boys to read, and such of them to write, as shall be ordered by the Committee; he fees that the Perfons employed to inftruct the Children in making Twine, or Nets, or any other Labour or Manufacture, perform their Duty with proper Decency and Sobriety, and that the Children be induftrious in fuch Employments, and punishes all Neglects of Duty, Immorality, or Mifbehaviour in the Children; and gives immediate Information to the Committee, if he obferves any Profanenefs or Immorality, Misbehaviour or Neglect of Duty in any Officer or Servant belonging to the Hofpital, that no evil Examples may corrupt the Morals of the Children.

$4. Of the STEWARD.

The Steward is to be of unblemished Character, diligent, fober, and a good Accomptant.
