13. Thou who wert mov'd with Mary's grief, And by absolving of the thief,

Hast given me hope, now give relief.

14. Reject not my unworthy prayer, Preserve me from that dang'rous snare, Which death and gaping Hell prepare.

15. Give my exalted soul a place Among thy chosen right hand race, The Sons of God, and heirs of

grace.

16 From that insatiable abyss,
Where flames devour and serpents hiss,
Promote me to thy seat of bliss.

17. Prostrate my contrite heart I rend, My God, my Father, and my Friend, Do not forsake me in the end.

18. Well may they curse their second breath!
Who rise to a reviving death:
Thou great Creator of Mankind,
Let guilty man compassion find.

CXXVIII.

1. Great GOD what do I see and hear?
The end of things created!
I see the JUDGE of man appear,
On clouds of glory seated,

The trumpet sounds, the graves restore
The Dead which they contain'd before.
Prepare my soul, to meet thy God!

2. Enshrin'd he sits in lightning's blaze;— Loud rolls the pealing thunder.

My senses fail me !—while 1

gaze
The heav'ns are rent assunder.—
The trumpet sounds, the dead obey,
And earth's foundations pass away
Prepare, my soul, to meet thy God!

3. Around the throne, the righteous bow,
And crown'd with bliss adore him ;
While headlong hurl'd to endless woe,
The guilty fly before him.

Among the blest may we appear,
And worship our Redeemer there.
Prepare, my soul, to meet thy God!

CXXIX.

1. Thou Judge of quick and dead,
Before whose bar severe;
With holy joy or guilty dread,

We all shall soon appear:
Our caution'd souls prepare
For that tremendous day;

And fill us now with watchful care,
And stir us up to pray-.

2. To

pray and wait the hour,

That awful hour unknown;

When rob'd in majesty and power,

Thou shalt from heav'n come down.

Th' immortal Son of Man,

To judge the human race,

With all thy Father's dazzling train,
With all thy glorious grace.—

3. To calm our earthly joys,
T' increase our sacred fears,
For ever let th' Archangel's voice
Be sounding in our ears.

The solemn midnight cry,

"Ye dead; the Judge is come : "Arise, and meet him in the sky, And meet your instant doom!"

4. O may we thus be found,
Obedient to his word,
Attentive to the trumpet's sound,
And looking for our Lord!

O may we all insure

A lot among the blest!

And, watch a moment, to secure

An everlasting rest.

CXXX.

1. When rising from the bed of Death O'erwhelm'd with guilt, and fear,

I see my Maker face to face,

Oh! how shall I appear.

2. If yet while pardon may be found,

And mercy may be sought;

My heart with inward horror shrinks!

And trembles at the thought.

3. When thou O Lord shalt stand disclos'd

In Majesty severe;

And sit in judgment on my soul,
O how shall I appear.

4. But never shall my soul despair

Her pardon to procure;
Who knows thine only son has died,
To make that pardon sure.

CXXXI.

John 14. 2.

1. High in yonder realms of light,
Far above these lower skies,
Fair and exquisitely bright,
Heaven's unfading mansions rise.

2. Blest within these high abodes,
Dwell the raptur'd saints above,
Whom no anxious care corrodes,-
Happy in Immanuel's love!

3. Once, indeed, like us below,
Pilgrims in this vale of tears:
Tort'ring pain and heavy woe,
Anxious doubts and gloomy fears.
