4. Disperse the baneful Ills that spring
From persecuting strife;
So shall thy Church thy Praises sing,
Lord of Immortal Life.
O thou, who sits't in heav'n enthron'd in light,
Father of all, tho' veil'd from mortal sight;
Do thou thy children's murmuring thoughts
(restrain,
Nor let unhallow'd lips thy name prophane ;
With sacred truth, illume the darken'd soul,
And let thy kingdom spread from Pole to
(Pole; That thus thy sacred will, to all display'd, May be in Earth, as well as Heaven obey'd. Our wants are known to thy omniscient eye, Then let thy hand those daily wants supply; And may that mercy, we for others feel, The free forgiveness of our errors seal. Oh! guide our wand'ring feet, nor let them ( stray Where evil lurks, or tempting snares be
For uncontroul'd dominion, Lord, is thine; Thy pow'r is boundless, as thy word divine, And firm establish'd shall thy glory be When Time shall yield to dread Eternity.
We praise thee, GoD-before thee fall,
Father Supreme, and LORD of All,
To thee, Eternal GoD, belongs
The worship of created Tongues :
Cherub and Seraphim conspire
To swell the full Angelic Choir,
Veiling their faces as they sing:
Holy art thou, Almighty King,
Thy glories fill each radiant Sphere,
"In Majesty dost thou appear:
Whilst all the glittʼring hosts around
Exulting spread the rapt'rous sound.
"To thee, the blest Apostles raise
The Song of Universal Praise ;
Such Strains the goodly Band inspire
Who own'd a Prophet's sacred fire ;
And that brave Army, nobly good,
Who seal'd their Faith in Martyr'd Blood;
Christian Assemblies, in thy name,
Throughout the spacious Earth, proclaim
One FATHER Infinite, of pow'r possest,
One Son, with endless Honours blest,
And one Celestial Beam of Light,
SPIRIT OF PEACE! Effulgence bright!
SON of the Father-CHRIST art thou,
Immortal splendours bind thy Brow;
Yet, to redeem a fallen race,
Thou left'st thine Ancient dwelling-place;
Thy Spirit pure, did not disdain
The fleshly Robe of Mortal Pain.
When thy triumphant Arm oppos'd
The pow'rs of Death-thine Hand unclos'd
(To all who own thy saving Love)
The Everlasting Gates Above.
When the last awful day draws near,
At God's right hand, shalt thou appear,
Judge of the World-the yawning Tomb
Shall yield its dead to meet their doom:
O JESUS, by thy gracious Pow'r,
Uphold thy servants in that Hour;
Victor o'er Sin, the World, the Grave,
Thine Heritage in mercy save,
With thy blest Saints let them partake,
Exalt thein for thy Glory's sake.
Thro' each revolving change of Days,
Our voice shall celebrate thy praise,
And thro' Eternal Ages still
The vast concave of Heav'n shall fill:
O! let our souls, this day, remain
Free from the taint of sinful stain,
And the warm glow of Mercy rest
Upon each true believing breast
So shall the Pow'rs of darkness flee
Before the Faith that trusts in thee.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow,
Praise him all creatures here below;
Praise him above, y' angelic host
Praise FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST.
Holy FATHER, lend thine ear;
Hearken THOU, his only Peer;
Hearken SPIRIT, Paraclete;
GOD whom endless ages greet.
Hallelujah! to the LORD,
FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST, By the saints on earth ador'd,
And by heaven's seraphic host; Shout ye Sons of God and Men, Thro' Eternity. AMEN.
Thro' endless ages let us sing
The FATHER, whom as LORD we greet, The Son, who broke Death's mighty sting, And HOLY GHOST, the Paraclete.
Let Eternal Praise proclaim
Far and wide Salvation's boast,
This, JEHOVAH's Sacred name
FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST.
