Name from the Earth and what wilt thou Do unto thy GREAT NAME?

10 And the LORD faid unto Joshua, Get thee up, wherefore lieft thou thus upon thy Face?

11 Ifrael hath SINNED, and they have alfo tranfgreffed my Covenant which I commanded them for they have even taken of the accurfed Thing, and have alfo ftolen, and diffembled alfo, and they have put it even amongst their, own Stuff.

12 Therefore the Children of Ifrael could not ftand before their Enemies, but turned their Backs before their Enemies, because they were accurfed neither will I be with you any more, except you destroy the Accurfed from amongst you.

13 Up, fanctify the People, and fay, Sanctify yourselves against To-morrow: for thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, There is an accurfed Thing in the midft of thee, O Ifrael: thou canst not ftand before thine Enemies, until ye take away the accurfed Thing from among you.

14 In the Morning therefore ye fhall be brought according to your Tribes and it fhall be that the Tribe which the LORD taketh, fhall come according to the Families thereof; and the Family which the LORD fhall take, fhall come by Houfholds; and the Houfhold which the LORD fhall take, fhall come Man by Man.

15 And it fhall be that he that is taken with the accurfed Thing fhall be burnt with Fire, he and all that he hath : because he hath tranfgreffed the Covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought Folly in Ifrael.

16 So Joshua rose up early in the Morning, and brought Ifrael by their Tribes; and the Tribe of Judah was taken. 17 And he brought the Family of Judah; and he took the Family of the Zarhites: and he brought the Family of the Zarhites Man by Man; and Zabdi was taken :

18 And he brought his Houfhold Man by Man; and Achan of the Tribe of Judah was taken.

19 And Joshua faid unto Achan, My Son, give, I pray thee, Glory to the LORD GOD of Ifrael, and make Confeffion unto him; and tell me now what thou haft done, hide it not from me.

20 And Achan answered Joshua, and faid, Indeed I have finned against the LORD Gop of Ifrael, and thus and thus have I done.

21 When

21 When I faw among the Spoils a goodly BABYLONISH GARMENT, and two hundred Shekels of Silver, and a Wedge of Gold of fifty Shekels weight, then I COVETED them, and took them, and behold they are hid in the Earth in the midst of my Tent, and the Silver under it.

22 So Joshua fent Meffengers, and they ran unto the Tent, and behold, it was hid in his Tent, and the Silver .under it.

23 And they took them out of the midst of the Tent, and brought them unto Jofhua, and unto all the Children of Ifrael, and laid them out before the LORD.

24 And Joshua and all Ifrael with him, took Achan, and the Silver, and the Garment, and the Wedge of Gold, and his Sons, and his Daughters, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the Valley of Achor.

25 And Joshua faid, Why haft thou troubled us? the LORD fhall trouble thee this Day. And all Ifrael stoned him with Stones, and burned them with Fire, after they had ftoned them with Stones.

26 And they raised up over him a great Heap of Stones unto this Day: So the LORD turned from the Fierceness of his Anger wherefore the Name of that Place was called, The Valley of Achor unto this Day.

AN

ND the LORD faid unto Jofhua, Fear not, neither be thou difmayed: take all the People of War with thee, and arife, go up to Ai: fee, I have given into thy Hand the King of Ai, and his People, and his City, and his Land.

2 And thou shalt do to Ai, and her King, as thou didst unto Jericho and her King: only the Spoil thereof, and the Cattle thereof fhall ye take for a Prey unto yourselves: lay thee an Ambufh for the City behind it.

3 So Joshua arofe, and all the People of War, to go up against Ai and Joshua chofe out thirty thousand mighty Men of Valour, and fent them away by Night.

4 And he commanded them, faying, Behold, ye fhall lie

in wait against the City, even behind the City: go not far from the City, but be ye all ready.

5 And I, and all the People that are with me, will approach unto the City: and it shall come to pafs when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.

6 (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the City; for they will fay, They flee before us, as at the first therefore we will flee before them.

7 Then ye fhall rife up from the Ambush, and feize upon the City for the LORD your God will deliver it into your Hand.

8 And it shall be when ye have taken the City, that ye fhall fet the City on fire: according to the Commandment of the LORD fhall ye do. See, I have commanded you.

14 And it came to pafs when the King of Ai faw it, that they hafted and rofe up early, and the Men of the City went out against Ifrael to Battle, he and all his People, at a Time appointed, before the Plain; but he wift not that there were Liers in Ambush against him behind the City.

15 And Joshua and all Ifrael made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the Wilderness.

16 And all the People that were in Ai, were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the City.

17 And there was not a Man left in Ai, or Beth-el, that went not out after Ifrael: and they left the City open, and purfued after Ifrael.

18 And the LORD faid unto Jofhua, Stretch out the Spear that is in thy Hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine Hand. And Joshua ftretched out the Spear that he had in his. Hand toward the City.

19 And the Ambush rofe quickly out of their Place, and they ran as foon as he had stretched out his Hand: and they entred into the City, and took it, and hasted, and fet the City on fire.

23 And the King of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.

25 And fo it was, that all that fell that Day, both of Men and Women, were twelve thousand, even all the Men of Ai.

30 Then Jofhua built an Altar unto the LORD GOD of Ifrael in Mount Ebal.

31 As Mofes the Servant of the LORD commanded the Children of Ifrael, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Mofes, an Altar of whole Stones, over which no Man hath lift up any Iron: and they offered thereon Burnt-offerings unto the LORD, and facrificed Peace-offerings.

32 And he wrote there upon the Stones a Copy of the Law of Mofes, which he wrote in the prefence of the Children of Ifrael.

33 And all Ifrael, and their Elders and Officers, and their Judges, ftood on this fide the Ark, and on that fide, before the Priests the Levites, which bare the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, as well the Stranger as he that was born among them; half of them over against Mount Gerizzim, and half of them over against Mount Ebal: as Mofes the Servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they fhould blefs the People of Ifrael.

34 And afterward he read all the Words of the Law, the BLESSINGS and CURSINGS, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law.

35 There was not a Word of all that Mofes commanded, which Joshua read not before all the Congregation of Ifrael with the Women, and the Little ones, and the Strangers that were converfant among them.

TOW it came to pafs, when Adonizedek King of Jerufalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it, (as he had done to Jericho and her King, fo he had done to Ai and her King) and how the Inhabitants of Gibeon had made Peace with Ifrael, and were among them;

2 That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great City, as one of the Royal Cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the Men thereof were mighty.

3 Wherefore Adonizedek King of Jerufalem, fent unto Hoham King of Hebron, and unto Piram King of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia King of Lachifh, and unto Debir King of Eglon, faying,

4 Come unto me, and help me, that we may fmite Gibeon for it hath made Peace with Joshua, and with the Children of Ifrael.

5 Therefore the five Kings of the Amorites, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their Hofts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made War against it.

6 And the Men of Gibeon fent unto Jofhua, to the Camp to Gilgal, faying, Slack not thy Hand from thy Servants; come up to us quickly, and fave us, and help us : for all the Kings of the Amorites that dwell in the Mountains, are gathered together against us.

7 So Joshua afcended from Gilgal, he, and all the People of War with him, and all the mighty Men of Valour.

8 And the LORD faid unto Joshua, FEAR THEM NOT: for I have delivered them into thine Hand; there fhall not a Man of them ftand before thee.

9 Joshua therefore came unto them fuddenly, and went up from Gilgal all Night.

10 And the LORD DISCOMFITED them before Ifrael, and flew them with a great Slaughter at Gibeon, and chafed them along the Way that goeth up to Beth-horon, and Imote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

11 And it came to pass as they fled from before If rael, and were in the going down to Beth-horon, that the LORD caft down GREAT STONES from Heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died they were more which died with HAIL-STONÈS, than they whom the Children of Ifrael flew with the Sword.

12 Then fpake Joshua to the LORD in the Day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the Children of Ifrael, and he said in
